For those of you who have never birthed a child; and, of course, I include myself in that group of people,
I have heard that giving birth is the most painful experience that a woman can go through; and, yet, the moment that we were born, all that excruciating pain was completely forgotten; and our mothers, at that point in time, loved us unconditionally with the greatest love that one human being can give to another human being! Isnít that amazing, church, just imagine it in your minds, for just a moment, just imagine what a miracle motherhood is! Here, we have a woman loving, unconditionally, the very source of her intense pain! And to think, my brothers and sisters, we only reserve one (1) day out of the year, to recognize the importance and worth of this incredible creation of Almighty God - this creation called "woman"! She was called "woman" because she was taken out of "man" - Almighty God using a rib from the first Adam to make her! In the "Book of Beginnings" - in Genesis 2:18 (KJV) - we read: "And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."
The Scripture text, that we have read this morning, which is the basis for this Word from the Lord, Proverbs 31:10-31 (KJV), is an acrostic poem; that is to say, each of the twenty-two (22) verses begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet! So, my brothers and sisters, when we talk about a woman, we do so poetically! The opening words of our Scripture text, "Who can find a virtuous woman?" indicates to us that this Word from the Lord is telling us what Almighty God views as the "ideal" woman - the epitome (so-to-speak) of womanhood! The words "virtuous woman" speak to us of excellence, speak to us of moral worth, speak to us of ability, speak to us of nobility; and, not just marital fidelity! Such a woman, is the role model of "Wisdom in Action"! This passage of Scripture emphasizes both the hard work and the skill that a woman enjoys doing - bringing fulfillment to her life as she goes about employed in her many varied tasks!
The words "she riseth also while it is night" describes her concern for others! She gives of herself to care for her family! "She considers a field" - that is to say, she buys and sells and builds her own resources, remarkable words to describe a woman, considering that many restrictions were placed on women in the ancient world of the Holy Bible! The words "her merchandise is good:" indicates
