July 1, 2012 Morning Service
Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Message Point: It is the believer’s responsibility to share the gospel; it is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit to save people.

Focus Passage: Matthew 13:3-9, 18-23

Supplemental Passage: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
(Matthew 28:18-20 NASB)

Introduction: People are much more enthusiastic when talking about politics, sports, or even their grandkids. Folks are much more apt to talk about their vacations, their cars, and even their pets, than they are to tell someone about Jesus!

I. The Sower

a. We are the sowers. Not just pastors. Not Just missionaries. Every believer is a sower.

b. We SOW the seed. We spread it around. In this parable, we don’t do the reaping, just the sowing.

c. If we don’t do it, it doesn’t get done.

II. The Seed

a. The seed is the constant. It is there whether or not it ever gets spread.

b. The seed doesn’t change according to the type of ground.

III. The Ground

a. The ground is the biggest variant. Some is ready; some is not. Some will not take root; some will bear much fruit.

b. As the sower, it isn’t our job to judge the ground, but to spread the seed.

c. We don’t “save” anyone; that’s the job of the Holy Spirit.
