BE A CHEERLEADER…

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

TEXT: Ecclesiastes 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

WE NEED CHEERLEADERS IN THE FAMILY AND IN THE CHURCH: NATURE TEACHES WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER…

WOLVES TRAVEL IN LARGE PACKS OFTEN AROUND 25. The first five wolves are often the strongest. In deep snow they travel in a line, the wolf in front cuts the path, this saves energy. Then comes the weaker, older or sick. These help set the pace. Then comes the rest of the pack. THE LAST ONE IS THE ALPHA--- HE CONTROLS EVERYTHING FROM THE REAR. This leader controls everything, he sees the whole pack. EACH HELPS THE OTHER. They watch out for each other. A wolf that is all alone is in great danger. They cheer and encourage each other.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

We have spiritual duties. We need to warn others to travel together. The slow pokes and freeloaders must keep moving. Gently we encourage each other and to reach out and help the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, Be attentive to individual needs.

Matthew 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.

THE LITTLE BOY TRIED OUT FOR THE SEVENTH GRADE FOOTBALL TEAM… Most of the boys at school had played little league football for several years, health problems did not allow him to play. This small boy was handicapped. He wanted to play football so bad. He asked his mom to take him to the summer practice sessions before school started. He daily attended and tried his best to compete for a spot on the team. After two weeks school was to start and the coach was to announce who made the team. As the mother dropped off her son he was so excited in hopes of making the team. The mom hated to pick up her son and knew he would be so disappointed when he did not make the cut. The mom had prayed for her son. He was so excited when she pulled up, he jumped in the car screaming: “Momma, momma, I made it… I WAS CHOSEN TO BE THE WATERBOY. THE COACH TOLD ME HE THOUGHT I COULD BE THE BEST WATER BOY THE TEAM EVER HAD.”

DO I HAVE A DUTY? WHAT IS MY PURPOSE IN LIFE? WHEN I TAKE MY LAST BREATH WHAT SHALL I ANSWER?

Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Do I proclaim GOD THE FATHER, JESUS THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT THE COMFORTER? Do I stand in the midst of the fast, flooded, rushing river of life and cry to those going with the current: YOU ARE GOING THE WRONG WAY? Will anyone stop and listen… will they mock? Make us happy, scratch my itch? Entertain us, WE DEMAND PLEASURE, PREACH US HAPPY?

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

We see an EGO BATTLE! I want to be in front. Get out of my way. I deserve to be in front. We brown nose and kiss up and sweet-talk our way to the top. JESUS SAYS MANY THAT ARE IN FRONT WILL HAVE TO STAND ASIDE… WHEN THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST. Let us willingly push self to the side, and help others get ahead.

BEING A CHEERLEADER IS A WAY OF LIFE… CHEERLEADING IS A BIG COMMITMENT… WHAT IS A CHEERLEADER? ENCOURAGER… THE CROWD? THE TEAM? EACH OTHER…

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Cheerleaders speak encouraging words to one another. They build up hope so we can all pull together. We are a team and no one will be left behind. We must keep on CHEERING. TRAIN YOUR MIND TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS.

A cheerleader is more than entertainment. Cheerleaders build enthusiasm during pep rallies, before the game, during the game, at timeouts, halftime and even after the game… A CHEERLEADER BUILDS SCHOOL SPIRIT…

Ask any coach a good cheerleading squad can help motivate the team. The cheerleaders generate enthusiasm to encourage the team’s success.

A GOOD CHEERLEADER MAKES THE INDIVIDUALS FEEL NEEDED AND IMPORTANT. Cheerleaders connect the FANS to the team. They also try to raise morale when the team is losing… let’s keep the energy high.
