Summary: We must be ready for His return!

1 Thessalonians 5:1-5:11

A man called 911, saying, "My wife is pregnant, and her contractions are

only two minutes apart!"

"Is this her first child?" the doctor queries.

"No, of course not, this is her husband!"

Someone said that from Genesis to Malachi preached “Christ is Coming.” The Gospels preaches “Jesus is Here”. And the Rest of the N.T books from Acts- Rev. “Jesus is Coming again”.

Verse 1-3-Paul does not want his readers to miss the striking contrast in destiny of day people versus night people

Verse 4-5-Be Informed

As a church we have that responsibility. As parents we have the responsibility to teach our children that Jesus is coming unexpectedly and therefore we should live our lives in a manner consistent with that understanding.

The word "overtake." It means to come upon or take hold of by surprise.

The world is caught by surprise because men will not hear God’s Word or heed God’s warning.

God warned that the flood was coming, yet only eight people believed and were saved.

Lot warned his family that the city was about to be destroyed but they didn’t want to listen.

Christians are “sons of the light” and therefore are not “in the dark” when it comes to future events.

Verse 3, 6-7-Be Alert

When a person is asleep, he is not alert nor involved in what is going on around him. When a believer is spiritually asleep, he is not alert nor involved in the things of God.

Let us not be caught off guard.

Let us not be lulled into a false sense of having “plenty of time.”

Let us not sleep as those disciples did who went with their Lord to the garden

Verse 8-10-Be Prepared

A lot of people come and by locks after someone has robbed them, or buy alarms after they have been robbed!

The breastplate protected the heart of the soldier. The heart of the believer must be protected. His heart must be committed and focused upon Jesus Christ

A hat is used for recognition… for identification such as a policeman’s hat or a Fire chef’s hat…

A hat is also used for protection such as the helmet for a football player or fireman… or race car driver.

Salvation is not only for our protection from judgment but it is also our identification of who we are and who we belong to!

Verse 11-Be A Comfort

The best way we can encourage one another is to remind one another of the HOPE we have through Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 10:23-25

The hope that there is a day when the Lord is coming back and we will be with Him forever!

Some days you just need to hear that!

That this world is just temporary and there is a better world ahead!
