Explores living purposefully and productively, perceiving time as a divine gift to be used wisely in light of eternity.

Introduction

Good morning, beloved family of God. How wonderful it is to gather together again in this sacred sanctuary, united by our common faith and the boundless love of our Heavenly Father. We are here to seek His face, to learn from His Word, and to encourage each other in our walk with Him.

Today, we are going to open the pages of God's Word to 1 Peter 4:7, where the apostle Peter writes, "The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers."

A passage that may seem daunting at first glance, yet it holds profound wisdom and guidance for us as we navigate the winding roads of life.

As we contemplate this verse, let's recall the words of the esteemed preacher, Charles Spurgeon, who once said, "Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity." This quote captures the essence of our discussion today. We are to perceive time not as a relentless oppressor, but as a precious gift from God, a gift to be used wisely and purposefully.

Before we proceed, let's bow our heads and hearts in prayer.

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of this day, for the opportunity to gather together in Your name, and for Your Word that guides and nourishes our souls. We ask that You open our hearts and minds to the truth You have for us today. Help us to understand and apply these principles in our lives so that we may glorify You in all we do. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.

Let’s get started!

Perceiving Time as God's Gift

In the grand tapestry of existence, time is a thread that weaves its way through every aspect of our lives. It is a constant companion, silently ticking away in the background, marking our joys and sorrows, our triumphs and failures. Yet, we often view time as a foe, a relentless taskmaster driving us forward with no regard for our desires or needs. But this is not how God intended us to perceive time.

Time is a gift: God, in His infinite wisdom and love, has given us time as a gift. It is a resource, a tool, a means to an end, not the end itself. It is a vessel that carries us through the journey of life, allowing us to experience, learn, grow, and ultimately draw closer to Him.

The inherent value of time: Each moment we have is unique, irreplaceable, and filled with potential. We often hear the phrase "time is money," but in reality, time is far more valuable. Money, once spent, can be earned back. But time, once it has passed, is gone forever. We cannot retrieve it, we cannot relive it, we cannot rewind it. This underscores the importance of using our time wisely, of making the most of every opportunity, as the apostle Paul encourages us in Ephesians 5:16.

Time is a reflection of God's grace: In His mercy, God gives us time to repent, to change, to grow. He does not demand immediate perfection, but patiently works with us, molding us into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. Every day is a fresh start, a new opportunity to align ourselves more closely with God's will. This is a comforting thought, especially when we stumble and fall. It reminds us that God is not finished with us yet, that He continues to work in us and through us, despite our flaws and failures.

Time is a testament to God's sovereignty: He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. He exists outside of time, yet He works within it to accomplish His purposes. He has set the times and seasons, and He controls the course of history. This means that we can trust Him with our past, our present, and our future. We can rest in the knowledge that He holds time in His hands, and that He will guide us through every season of life.

Time is a tool for spiritual growth: It is through the passing of time that we experience various trials and tribulations, which God uses to refine our faith and draw us closer to Him. As we endure hardships, we learn to rely more on God and less on ourselves. We learn to trust in His timing, to wait on His promises, to hope in His salvation. Over time, we are transformed from glory to glory, becoming more like Christ in character and conduct.
