Text: Titus 2:11-14 (King James Version)

"For the Grace of God that bringeth Salvation hath appeared to all men, (v. 12) Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; (v. 13) Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (v. 14) Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works."

Topic: Blessed By The Best!

In our Holy Scripture text, for today, which is not gender-specific; but, includes both men and women - we find the most concise summation of the relationship of Gospel Truth to real-life situations - a perfect balance of Christian doctrine with that of living our lives so as to realize the purpose of the atonement through personal holiness and good works! We simply have been and are "blessed by the best" - and, we will continue to be so blessed in the future!

The late great Scots-born Episcopal priest, philosopher, and writer, Rev. Kenneth Sylvan Launfel Guthrie (1871 - 1940), once wrote, "Dr. Cane, finding a flower under the Humboldt Glacier, was more affected by it because it grew beneath the lip and cold bosom of the ice, than he would have been by the most gorgeous garden bloom. So some single struggling grace in the heart of one far removed from Divine influences may be dearer to God than a whole catalog of virtues in the life of one more favored of Heaven.

As in nature, as in art, so in grace; it is rough treatment that gives souls, as well as stones, their lustre. The more the diamond is cut the brighter it sparkles; and in what seems hard dealing, there God has no end in view but to perfect His people."

A little background information might be helpful here! The Humboldt Glacier is the widest tidewater glacier in the Northern Hemisphere - bordering the Kane Basin in North West Greenland! "Dr. Cane," refers to the late great American Medical Officer in the United States Navy and member of two (2) Arctic Expeditions, Dr. Elisha Kent Kane (1820 - 1857)!

Know, my brothers and sisters, that Almighty God is in total and absolute control - but, He does not necessarily arrange things to keep us comfortable or to make life easier - He wants us to get out of our "Comfort Zones" and "Pay It Forward" - He wants us to share the blessings that He has given us with others! Sometimes, Almighty God permits us to experience hardships in order to "set us up" for greater blessings! Why does Almighty God allow bad things to happen to good people? Perhaps, it is because Almighty God wants to position them - and, to prepare them - for much greater blessings! In Job 42:10 (NLT), we read: "When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before."

Job was one of the richest men in the Middle East - and, he underwent one of the worst seasons of loss ever endured by anyone - he lost seven thousand (7,000) head of sheep - he lost three thousand (3,000) camels - he lost five hundred (500) donkeys - he lost a huge staff of servants - and, to make matters worse, he lost all ten (10) of his children at one time! As a businessman and as a father, Job lost everything
