Boasting for His Blessings!
Ps 44:6-8 I do not trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory;
7 but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.
8 In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.
Introduction: When most people hear the word boast it provokes in their mind negative thoughts. Most people who we have seen boast are all talk or con artists.
A story is told of a turtle that wanted to spend the winter in Florida, but he knew he could never walk that far. He convinced a couple of geese to help him, each taking one end of a piece of rope, while he clamped his vise-like jaws in the center.
The flight went fine until someone on the ground looked up in admiration and asked, "Who in the world thought of that?"
Unable to resist the chance to take credit, the turtle opened his mouth to shout, "I did--"
The dictionary meaning of boasting backs up our feeling toward these people who boast.
Boast
1. To glorify oneself in speech; talk in a self-admiring way.
2. To speak of with excessive pride.
3. To possess or own (a desirable feature).
4. To contain; have.
5. The act or an instance of bragging.
6. A source of pride.
But the scripture tells us there is one kind of boasting that is encouraged
In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.
I cannot boast of my self in speech by I can boast of him in my speech
I cannot talk of my self in a self-admiring way but I can talk of how much I admire Jesus
I cannot speak with excessive pride about myself, but I can speak with pride concerning God
The most desirable feature I possess or own is Jesus
I can brag about Jesus!
Isaiah 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
Jer 9:24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
1 Cor 1:28-31 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
In God we boast because I have assurance in the right now that it is by God that all victories are possible! I will praise his name forever. Continually and Constantly not for the moment or temporarily but it is my Job and duty and Joy to praise him forever. I have nothing else to rely on but God, no other confidence. He has helped me in the past, he is helping me right now and I expect that he will help me in the future. All the success I have ever had he gave it to me! All the success I will ever have he will give it to me!
Boast is Hallal it Generally means to praise or celebrate in praises.
