Summary: God in His Word expresses the need for man to be conscious of the fact he must one day die if Jesus tarries His coming. This is meant to have a positive affect on our lives if we grasp death from a biblical perspective.

Conscious of Death

Hebrews 9:23-28, Eccl. 9:4-5

Vs.27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment

Mention: Genesis 5 The first obituary written since the history of this world

Over 155,000 people die daily!

A recent comment made by Billy Graham who is 93 years of age has made me aware of the reality of death. “I spent my whole life learning how to live, but never learned how to grow old”

Several months ago in my brief study of the book of Ecclesiastes I discovered that Solomon did lots of thinking about life and death.

See: Eccl. 2:14

Eccl. 3:19

Eccl. 5:15

Eccl 12:3 weak hands and knees, grinders (teeth), windows darkened (eyes sight) Vs.4 sound of grinding low (ears hearing) Vs.5 that which is high (height) Almond tree (gray hairs)

“Because man goeth to his home”

See: Vs.7 Dust to the earth and the spirit unto God

As Eccl. chapter 7 and 11 tells us that God is the maker of all life!

Mention: Eccl. 11:5 God maketh all, Eccl. 7:29 God made man upright

See: Psalms 89:47-48 David speaks out concerning death

See: Eccl. 7:2 Solomon says when one go to the house of mourning the reality of death is acknowledged and we are to lay it to heart.

Several Things Every Man Ought To Know About Death:

1. The Beginning of Eternity

“After this the judgment” that does not sound like annihilation to me or Karma

See: Eccl. 11:9-10 God will bring thee into judgment

Mention: Eccl. 12:7 the spirit shall return unto the LORD

All of mankind will be judged on the basis of God Word!

See: Rev. 20:13-15

And: Rev. 21:8

According Luke 16 and Matt. 25 hell is a place where:

• Forever torment

• Forever remembering

• Forever darkness

2. Die By Appointment

Hebrews 9:27 It is appointed

The time of appointment is set by God!

Mention: Job 14:5 God has appointed our bounds and we cannot pass

Mention: Psalms 31:15 My times are in thy hands

3. Expresses The Brevity of Physical Life

James 4:14 Like a vapor

Psalms 90:9 We spend out years as a tale that is told

Job 20:8 He shall fly away as a dream

Mention: Isaiah 40:6-8 All flesh is as the grass and the flower of the field and it fadeth away

This is the reason why Solomon says all is vanity!

4. Death can be Beaten

There is only one way to escape this Great White Throne Judgment and the second death!

Eccl. 12:13-14 Fear God…

See: Hebrews 9:26, 28 Through the blood sacrifice of Christ
