Summary: This sermon looks at the examples of David and the three Hebrew boys and finds four charateristics of Courage.

I. Introduction

a. Christians are in need of courage today.

b. Nathan Hale epitomized courage when he said, “My only regret is that I have but one life to give for my country.”

c. We are all in the midst of a battle, and we need the courage to stand up for Jesus.

d. We can look to a boy named David and Three Hebrew boys for an example of courage. From them we learn four keys to courage.

II. 1st - Weren’t intimidated by opposition

a. 1 Samuel 17:26b, David did not care who he was up against he was going to fight for his God.

b. Daniel 3:16, the three Hebrew boys did not even give the king an answer.

c. The opposition may be “what others think.”

d. What others may say. Sometimes we are our own opposition.

III. 2nd - Didn’t Let the others discourage Them

a. 1 Samuel 17:28, David’s own brother is angry with him.

b. Daniel 3:8, The three had charges brought against them because they did not worship the Image.

c. Sometimes people can be very discouraging.

IV. 3rd - Gained Courage through Previous Experience

a. 1 Samuel 17:35-36, David tells Saul about his past experience.

b. Daniel 2:49, God had used Daniel and the three Hebrew in the past. God had been faithful to them.

c. God will be faithful to you.

V. 4th - Understood God’s Power

a. 1 Samuel 17:45-47, David claimed the power that he had in God Almighty

b. Daniel 3:17-18, They knew God was capable to deliver them from anything that Nebuchadnezzar could

do.

VI. Conclusion

a. What is it that you need courage for.
