David's Cry For Holiness

Summary: David cry’s out for Holiness in these verses. He answers the all important question, "Who will make it to heaven?"
David’s Cry for Holiness
I. The Prayer for Holiness. (v. 3)
A. Shows that holiness is hunger.
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” If any of us ever want to succeed in our Christian life we are going to have to hunger and thirst for God. We are going to have to get that appetite for what he wants...not matter what it
means to us.
B. Shows that Heaven is the hope of the sanctified.
Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness,without which no man shall see the Lord:” Heaven is the reward for the Sanctified. Without it, no one will make it to heaven.
II. The Possibility of Holiness. (v. 4)
A. God has promised holiness (cf. Luke 24:49)
B. God has provided holiness (cf. Acts 2:1-4)
III. The Person who is Holy. (v. 4)
A. Is clean of the world and sin.
No longer do we have to continue in sin, but God completely delivers.
B. Is cleansed from weight of the sin nature. (c.f. Paul’s struggle in Romans 7, and his deliverance in Romans 8)
The person who is Holy is clean of the world and sin, and cleansed from the weight of the sin nature. David said that those who will stand before God will have clean hands (clean of the world and sin) and a pure heart (cleansed from the weight of the sin nature). That is the person who is holy.
IV. The Provider of Holiness. (v. 5)
A. Is a faithful God who keeps his promises.
B. Is a friend who hears our plea for holiness.
