Explore the importance, process, and benefits of practicing discipleship in the home, encouraging believers to transform their households into platforms for raising disciples for God's kingdom.

Introduction

Good morning, church family! Today, we're going to dive into a topic that hits close to home – literally! We're exploring the necessity, the process, and the bountiful benefits that come from practicing discipleship within our very own households.

Brennan Manning once said, "What makes authentic disciples is not visions, ecstasies, biblical mastery of chapter and verse, or spectacular success in the ministry, but a capacity for faithfulness." In that spirit, let's allow the words we're about to read not only fill our minds but stir our hearts to action.

Our key scripture today is 2 Timothy 2.

Let's approach God's word today not just with our minds, but with our hearts open to the transformative power of His word.

Please join me in prayer.

Father God, we pray that as we delve into your word, our hearts will be stirred into action. Help us to grasp the importance of discipleship in our homes, understand the process, and embrace the benefits that come from it. May our homes become a platform for raising up disciples for your kingdom. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let’s get started!

The Necessity

The home is not just a physical structure where we eat, sleep, and spend time with our loved ones. It is a spiritual stronghold, a place where the foundations of our faith are laid and nurtured. It is the first place where we learn about God, about His love, His grace, and His expectations of us.

Where faith is formed and nurtured: It is in the home where children often first learn about God, about His love, His grace, and His expectations of us. It is in the home where we first learn to pray, to read the Bible, and to live according to God's commandments. The home is the first place where we learn to love God and to love others. It is the first place where we learn to serve, to give, and to forgive.

Where faith is lived out: It is in the home where we practice what we believe. It is in the home where we learn to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. It is in the home where we learn to forgive as we have been forgiven, to give as we have received, and to serve as we have been served.

Where faith is passed on from one generation to the next: It is in the home where we teach our children about God, about His love, His grace, and His expectations of us. It is in the home where we model for our children what it means to follow Jesus, to live according to His teachings, and to be His disciples.

Where faith is tested and strengthened: It is in the home where we face our greatest challenges and our greatest opportunities for growth. It is in the home where we learn to trust God in the midst of trials, to persevere in the face of adversity, and to hope in the face of despair.

Where faith is celebrated and shared: It is in the home where we celebrate God's goodness and faithfulness. It is in the home where we share our faith with others, inviting them to experience the love, grace, and truth of God.

Pastor, here would be a good place to share a personal story about discipleship either in the home you grew up in or in your home currently. What do/did you like about it and what would you want to change?

The Process

Making disciples in the home is not a one-time event, but rather a continuous process that requires intentionality, commitment, and patience ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
