Doing Things We Have Never Done To Get To Places We Have Never Been

Absalom was away from the king because of his terrible actions but he had a wonderful intercessor whose name was joab and joab talked david into allowing Absalom back into the city but he was forbidden to see kind davids face.

2Sa 14:24 And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king’s face.

2Sa 14:28 So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king’s face.

2Sa 14:29 Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he sent again the second time, he would not come.

2Sa 14:30 Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab’s field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.

2Sa 14:31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire?

2Sa 14:32 And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king’s face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me.

2Sa 14:33 So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom.

DESPERATE:

(1) dangerously reckless or violent as from urgency or despair

(2) Showing extreme courage; especially of actions courageously undertaken as a last resort

(3) Showing extreme urgency or intensity especially because of great need or desire

Absalom messed up and was separated from the king, just like you and I his flesh got the best of him and in a moment of rage he made a mistake.

And he tried his best to get the attention of the king, he had been away from the king for too long, he had suffered rejection for too long, he had carried this pain of the mistakes he had made for too long, and now his attitude is no matter what the cost no matter what the risk I must see the king.

So after going through proper channels and using standard conventional avenues to reach his father the king he set joabs [his next door neighbor] field on fire.

And he finally after 2 long years had an audience with the king and he risked being killed but he didn’t care and the king did something he didn’t usually do, he reversed his decision about Absalom not coming into his prescence and seeing his face.

He not only bought Absalom into his throne room but he kissed this son,

This was a great sign of acceptance and forgiveness and favour.

How many people understand that our god is doing some different fresh and new things among us.

And if we are going to get involved in these new things we are going to have to do some different things.

If we keep doing what we’ve been doing then we will keep getting what we have been getting.

the word of the lord tells us that in the last day he would pour out his spirit on all flesh a new thing

the day would come that before we ask he would answer a new thing

in the last day people would be hungry and thirsty for the word of the lord a new thing

the former and the latter rain together a new thing

Doing Things We Have Never Done To Get To Places We Have Never Been

we are going to have to step out of our boat for when we do we will walk on water

we are going to have cast our nets on the other side and when we do we are going to catch so many fish the boat cant hold them

Jesus honored people who risked shame, frustration and disappointment in coming to Him by faith. A Canaanite woman came crying to Jesus, "Lord, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession. The disciples said, ’Send her away’. The came and knelt before Jesus and said, "Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ Then Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted. And her daughter was healed was healed from that very hour." (Matt. 15:22-28) Be willing to risk in order to see God work great things
