Faith by Example

Scripture: Hebrews 11:29-12:2
Denomination: Congregational
Date Added: August 2010
Audience: General Adults (31 - 49)
Jesus alone
- "Look to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith!"

- Problem: Me, my savior and I
- incurvatus in me ipsum - incurved in myself

Cloud of witnesses
- "We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses!"
- a Christian is never alone
- we are not the first ones
- each community of faith has its heritage

Not just any witnesses
- sola scriptura
- scripture as guideline
- God is still speaking

Who are today's witnesses?
- The history of God's relationship with his people is full of personalities that shaped the faith of their day and age
- Through whom is God still speaking to you?
- a Christian is never alone: whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not, you do have the responsibilities of being part of someone's cloud of witnesses
- To whom is God still speaking through you?
