Psalms 109:4 (Amplified Bible)

Psalms 109:4 (New International Version)

In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer.

Psalms 109:4 (King James Version)

For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

One of the Messianic Psalm that portrays the LORD JESUS CHRIST even before He was revealed as a man. We see JESUS praying for His enemies, even His enemies are crucifying (hurting) Him, in opposite, He was praying for them.

Luke 23:34 (Amplified Bible)

And Jesus prayed, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And they divided His garments and distributed them by casting lots for them.

A. For GOD's love, men became adversaries

"For my love they are my adversaries:"

Adversaries or "satan" in Hebrew meaning: to attack, accuse, adversary, resist.

Philippians 3:18 (Amplified Bible)

For there are many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, who walk (live) as enemies of the cross of Christ (the Anointed One).

Romans 5:8 (Amplified Bible)

But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.

As sinners of this world, we are enemies of the cross of CHRIST, we became at one time, but when we accepted the LORD JESUS CHRIST as our LORD and SAVIOR, we became friends with Him. We became friends with GOD, through our faith that pleases Him.

James 2:23 (Amplified Bible)

And [so] the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed in (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on) God, and this was accounted to him as righteousness (as conformity to God’s will in thought and deed), and he was called God’s friend.

Hebrews 11:6 (Amplified Bible)

But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

Characteristics of enemies of GOD:

1. They are enemies of GOD without a cause

Psalms 35:7 (Amplified Bible)

For without cause they hid for me their net; a pit of destruction without cause they dug for my life.

2. They rewarded evil for GOD's goodness. They reject GOD's goodness in their lives.

Psalms 35:12 (Amplified Bible)

They reward me evil for good to my personal bereavement.

Psalms 38:20 (Amplified Bible)

They also that render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow the thing that is good.

3. They wanted to kill JESUS, the Only Way to Salvation

John 10:32 (Amplified Bible)

Jesus said to them, My Father has enabled Me to do many good deeds. [I have shown many acts of mercy in your presence.] For which of these do you mean to stone Me?

4. GOD love us exceedingly, but the more we love Him less.

2 Corinthians 12:15 (Amplified Bible)

But I will most gladly spend [myself] and be utterly spent for your souls. If I love you exceedingly, am I to be loved [by you] the less?

Hebrews 13:8 (Amplified Bible)

Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages).

GOD never changes, so all His Attributes, His Character never changes, He continues to love us more and more, but we can't make that promise to Him. I remember Peter promising Him this love but even denied Him three times, so all the other disciples.
