To explore the power and necessity of forgiveness in our Christian walk, as it is not about our feelings but our willful decision to forgive, just as God forgives us.

Introduction

Good morning, church family! As we gather here today, we're going to dive into a topic that's at the heart of our faith: forgiveness. We'll explore the power of forgiveness, the benefits it brings, and why it's an absolute necessity in our walk with Christ.

As the renowned Christian author, Corrie Ten Boom, wisely said, "Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart." That hit me right in the feels, folks. It's not about how we feel but about our willful decision to forgive.

Opening Scripture Reading: Our scripture for today comes from the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 18, verses 21 to 22. It reads: "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'"

Let us pray. Dear God, as we delve into Your word today, we ask for a heart that is open to understand the depth and breadth of forgiveness. Help us to grasp its power, cherish its benefits, and make it a necessity in our lives. May we learn to forgive as You have forgiven us, showing the same boundless mercy and love. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
