Summary: This is a funeral outline that was created for the funeral of a middle aged Christian man. The first part is personal stories about his life.

Funeral

Thank you on behalf of the family for being here today. I know that this is a difficult day for you as the family. My prayer is that we can find help and hope from the Word of God that will assist you in dealing with this loss.

OBIT

I. Al was a good man.

A) Alice related that even when he was sick he insisted on BBQing for a birthday party.

B) Rick says that in his last weeks of life he was still concerned about others. He showed this by reminding Rick to not get too hot while roofing houses.

C) Betty remembered a time when Al came and moved a large rock to her yard because she was unable to do it.

D) Several said that he was quick to take up for his family.

E) But the thing that I heard over and again was about his graciousness in taking in Margaret, Junior, and Lisa after the death of their mother.

F) Brenda said that he was a child of few words. He would go into his room, sit in his rocking chair, and listen to music. She shared a quote with me. “A man of few words has fewer to take back.”

II. BUT AL IS NOT IN HEAVEN TODAY BECAUSE HE WAS A GOOD MAN.

A) He is with God today because he accepted God’s Son Jesus Christ as his savior.

B) Al understood and would want you to understand that Jesus has provided a way of salvation.

1) A simple way—“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.”

2) If you believe with your heart and will confess your sin, and ask Jesus to save you, He will do it.

III. LETS TAKE A GLIMPSE AT WHAT AL IS EXPERIENCING TODAY.

A) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18

This life is filled with suffering and loss. But the greatest of our pain cannot even stand when held up next to the glory that we will one day see.

B) And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Revelation 21:3-5

C) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. II Cor 5:8

God loves you. He wants to help you with your grief. He will give you help for today and hope for tomorrow.

Safely Home

I am home in heaven, dear ones. Oh, so happy and so bright! There is a perfect joy and beauty In the everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in heaven at last. There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand, Do it now, while life remaineth-- You shall rest in God’s own land. this was appropriate for a funeral I am doing on 10/31/06 It has points I will easily be able to use.
