Summary: This is a short service for a graveside.

Graveside Service 1

Scripture

In John 11:25 “Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.’” Then He asked, “Do you believe this?”

Let me ask today – do you believe this? For it is the belief in Christ’s resurrection of Christ that gives us as Christians – hope today. It is the validation that there is life beyond this life. That there is something more that awaits us.

Paul wrote in Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I hope and pray that all of us standing here today are convinced that nothing – absolutely nothing – can separate us from God’s love.

Committal

In the light of these promises – today we commit …………. to her/his final resting place in this world. Truly ashes to ashes – dust to dust – but only for a season. For we know there is a resurrection and life beyond this life for those who believe in Christ Jesus as Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the glorious hope and for the great consolation we have concerning those who sleep in Jesus. We know that our Lord Jesus Christ has prepared a place for those who have placed their faith in Him. We know that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Watch over the family and friends of …….as we continue to live each day and may we walk in this world knowing that you are watching over us. Give us strength, give us peace and give us hope. Amen.

I was asked to perform a graveside service for a patient who was cremated. It was my first time being asked to do so. I was looking for some help, and found your site. The words of inspiration were very helpful, and I will use one of the Scriptures, and add Matthew 6. Thanks for your help! Rev. Dossie
