Hell Is For Sissies
Contributed by Jonathan Lucas on Jun 6, 2001 (message contributor)
Summary: This sermon reveals what it takes to get to Heaven or go to Hell.
Hell Is For Sissies!
Text: John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
Introduction:
We live in a day and an age when the question has been asked, “What happened to all the REAL men?” It seems that we are a society of “Sissies”, or my favorite term, “Pansies”. No longer do we have real men, except maybe in Texas or something.
In reality we have become a society of Sissies. We are surrounded every day by those who are too afraid to stand up for what’s right and try to influence change. It is even so in the religious world. Feel-good sermons, watered down salvation and touchy-feely services seem to be the trend of the day.
That is why I declare to you that, “Hell is for Sissies!”
Go there if you want, but I’m gonna be a real man and go to Heaven. It takes a real man to go to Heaven.
I. Why Sissies Go To Hell.
Fear of Failure
Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
Peer Pressure
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord.
And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.
Fear of Loss
Matthew 19:16-17, 22
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Fear of Change
Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
II. Changed, but Unchanged.
Behavioral Changes do not Equal Salvation
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Church Attendance does not Equal Salvation
Judas didn’t miss a service
Financial Support does not Equate Salvation
Ananias & Sapphira
Real Change came through a Real Man
Jesus Christ
For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
III. Give Me Jesus.
A Man of Truth
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
A Man of Commitment
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
A Man of Purpose
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
A Man of Promise
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
IV. Give Me a Man
Give Me a Man of Truth
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Give Me a Man of Commitment
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Give Me a Man of Promise
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Give Me a Man Who’ll Stand
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
