Summary: God is able to help us in the difficulties of everyday life.

In coming to the disciples across the water, Jesus had literally said, "It is I Am". This must have made a strong impression on Peter which the Holy Spirit pressed to his heart as evidenced by his bold profession just two chapters later in Matthew’s narrative.

1. The deity of Christ compels us to act.

v.28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

2. God provides us the strength to take bold steps of faith.

v.29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

3. Focusing on the storm instead of the Lord will “sink” us.

v.30a But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink.

4. Jesus is able to rescue us.

v.30b He cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31a And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him.

5. Our lack of faith is exposed.

v.31b And said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

6. God is glorified anyway.

v.33Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
