How Can We Sing The Lord's Song?

Summary: Discouragement is one the Satan’s most powerful tools and has stolen the Lord’s song from the lips of many Christians. Some thoughts on how to face this problem that is common to us all at one time or another in our life.
HOW CAN WE SING THE LORD’S SONG?
"How can we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land?" Psalm 137:4
I. THE CHILD OF GOD HAS A SONG TO SING!
"Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." Ephesians 5:19.
Many of our favorite hymns express this.
"Since I Have Been Redeemed"
"Why Do I Sing About Jesus?"
"I Will Sing the Wondrous Story"
"How Great Thou Art"
II. SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LORD’S SONG;
"Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul." Psalm 66:16.
It declares the grace of God: "Amazing Grace"
It is a song of victory: "Victory in Jesus"
III. WHY WE OFTENTIME FAIL TO SING THE LORD’S SONG:
"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept when we remembered Zion. We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst of it. For there those who carried us away captive asked of us a song. How can we sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land."
Sin will silence the song in your heart!
Discouragement quenches the desire to sing. The Israelites in Babylon were overcome by being captives in "a foreign land".
It is in the "foreign lands" of our lives that we need to bear the strongest witness and sing the song of the Lord.
IV. GETTING OUR SONG BACK:
David expressed it quite clearly in his prayer of confession: "Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation." Psalm 51:12.
Once the joy of our salvation has been restored, the singing of the Lord’s song proclaiming His love and saving grace will proceed from our lips automatically.
