How do you know God is in your life and listening to your prayers?

From a Christian perspective, knowing that God is in your life and listening to your prayers is a matter of faith and a personal relationship with Him. Here are a few ways we may experience and recognize God's presence and attentive ear:

1. Scripture and Promises: We believe that God reveals Himself through His Word, the Bible. By studying and meditating on the Scriptures, we find assurance of God's faithfulness and promises to listen to our prayers. For example:

Matthew 7:7-8, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Jeremiah 29:12-13, In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

2. Answered Prayers: We may witness our prayers being answered in ways that align with God's will and bring about positive changes in our lives or the lives of others. These answers can affirm our belief that God is actively involved and attentive to our prayers.

3. Intimate Relationship: Through personal experiences, we develop a relationship with God, where we feel His presence, guidance, and comfort. Often we can sense a deep peace or assurance during times of prayer, worship, or moments of seeking His presence.

4. Holy Spirit's Confirmation: We believe in the presence of the Holy Spirit, who dwells within believers. The Holy Spirit acts as a guide, counsellor, and comforter, testifying to the reality of God's presence in their lives (John 14:16-17, Romans 8:16).

5. Transformative Life Change: Christians often testify to the transformative power of God in our lives. We may see positive changes in our attitudes, behaviours, and character as we grow in our faith. This transformation can serve as evidence of God's work and presence.

6. Community and Fellowship: We can find affirmation and support from fellow believers in a faith community. Through shared experiences, encouragement, and accountability, we find confirmation that God is present and active in our lives.

It's important to note that experiences will vary among individuals, and faith requires trust and an ongoing relationship with God. Christians understand that there may be times when we don't feel God's presence or when prayers seem unanswered. During such times, we rely on our faith, knowing that God's ways and timing are beyond their understanding:

Isaiah 55:8-9, “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
