Description: God wants you to get a revelation of who He is and to know Him.

Revelation comes through His Word and experience with Him.

We are transformed by His revealing character.

Exodus 3:13-14

13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said , Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

John 8:57-59

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by .

Introduction:

Exodus 15:11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

This is a line in the Triumphant Song of Moses after they had crossed the Red Sea on dry land

glorious in holiness: He is worthy to be magnified, worthy to be honored in His holiness (or because of His holiness)

His holiness had shone forth through delivering His people

The holiness of God is His glory

Holy does not have a synonym but the translated Hebrew word means sacred, pure, undefiled, set apart

It is the righteousness, the perfection, the goodness and the blessedness of His nature

It is primarily by this glorious perfection that all creation knows Him

This is why He is called the Holy One, the Holy One of Israel.

God is more often prefixed Holy than Almighty.

God is more often described as Holy than any other part of His nature.

The name of God is rarely if ever referred to

-His wise name or -His mighty name

But always His holy name!

This is His greatest title of honor

Holy God, Holy Name, Holy One, Holy One of Israel

Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit

1. Holy Ground

Back up a few verses from the I AM text and we see where it begins...

Exodus 3:1-6

1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law , the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked , and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt .

4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

5 And he said , Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

We serve a Holy God, His presence is Holy

His presence should be valued, there is a reverence, God is to be revered, the things of God, the presence of God there is a reverence

No need for shoes, this ground is perfect and pure

2. We Can Trust Him Bc Of His Holiness

Psalm 145:17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

His holiness permeates all of His ways, all of His works!

Psalm 89:35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.

God has actually sworn by His holiness that He will not lie

He has laid His holiness down as a pledge for assurance of His promises

Its as though, He is saying “This is my most perfect attribute, there is nothing higher that I can point to, and by this I pledge and swear by that I will not lie to David”

3. God Defends His Holy Reputation

Ezekiel 39:7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
