I am the Light of the World I am the Good Shepherd

I am the Door I am the Resurrection and the Life

I am the Way I am the True Vine

I am the Alpha & Omega

Jesus reveals Himself as the eternal Son of God

The “I am” statements help us understand Him

The Light of the World

What does this “I am” statement mean?

How does it relate to you and me?

I. Light Brings a Knowledge of our Need (vv. 1-9)

a. “ Then” (v. 12) refers to the previous experience

b. The woman taken in adultery

c. All eyes focused on this quality woman

d. The Pharisees attempt to catch Jesus between law and grace

i. He said He had come to fulfill the Law

ii. He was also the friend of sinners

iii. The Law demanded death for adultery

iv. What would Jesus do+

e. Jesus stooped and wrote on the ground

i. The law had been written in stone for Moses

ii. Perhaps he wrote the Commandments in the Sand

iii. The law makes us all face our sins

f. The Pharisees now made aware of their sins

g. “Le him … cast the first stone”

h. Exposed to the light they all departed

II. Light Brings Hope to the Hopeless (v. 10)

a. The woman was guilty, without hope

b. Now She would have hope, forgiveness

i. “Where are thine accusers?”

ii. “Neither do I condemn thee”

c. Light for all in the dark

i. The dayspring from on high (Luke 1:78)

ii. A light for the Gentiles (Luke 2:32)

iii. The light was the life of men (John 1: 4-6)

d. Our Lord’s passion for a lost world

i. “World” appears 77 times in John’s Gospel

ii. Capsulated in John 3:16

III. Light Brings Direction to Those Who are Delivered (vv. 11-12)

a. “Go, and sin no more”

b. “Shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”

c. These are directions for those who have been forgiven

i. Salvation is only the beginning (Eph. 2: 8 –10)

ii. We are not to walk in darkness anymore.

iii. We are to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4)

The Sinless Savior Brings Light and Life to Sinners

Come out of Darkness to the Light of the World

He will Enable You to Walk in His Light
