Text: 1 Timothy 6:12-19 (King James Version)

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on Eternal Life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. (v. 13) I give thee charge in the sight of God who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession, (v. 14) That thou keep His Commandment without spot, unrebukeable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. (v. 15) Which in His times He shall shew, Who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords. (v. 16) Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the Light which no man can approach unto, Whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to Whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen. (v. 17) Charge them that are rich in this world, that they may not be high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. (v. 18) That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; (v. 19) Laying up in store for themselves agood foundation, against the time to come, that they may lay hold on Eternal Life."

Topic: Immortality - Eternal Life Or Eternal Damnation?

Immortality is the quality or state of being exempy from death! In the true sense of the word, only Almighty God is immortal! Only Almighty God is living in the true sense of the word, for mankind - both male and female - may be considered immortal only insofar as immortality is the gidt of Almighty God!

The late great English author, William Makepeace Thackeray (1811 - 1863), once said, "Life is the soul’s nursery - its training place for the destinies of Eternity!"

In the poem, entitled, "My Heart’s Storehouse," by the poet and author, from southern Colorado, Gael M. (Stuart) Phaneuf, we get a good beginning:

***"I thought of all the blessings
***My Lord God did impart -
***I tied them well with memory’s thread
***And tucked them in my heart.
***When disappointment came to call
***I had a goodly store
***Of soothing thoughts to draw upon
***While my heart was sore.
***I’ve often found the trials that came
***Knocking at my door
***Were blessings in disguises
***Replenishing my store!"

The Prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 26:4 (NLT), tells us: "Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the Eternal Rock."

The story is told of Matthew Henshaw, of Wembley, Australia, who got his name into the "Guinness Book of World Records," in a rather unusual way, after swallowing a 15.9-inch sword with a 40-pound sack of potatoes attached to the handle and holding it for five (5) seconds! It is not recommended that you try this at home!

Matthew Henshaw and others just like him, have gone to extraordinary lengths to have their names mentioned in the world’s most famous record book. The longing for immortality compels people to do many things - some good and remarkable - some bad and bizarre!

The immortality that Jesus, the Christ offers, however, has nothing to do with anything that we do! In point of fact, after giving His Disciples/Apostles the authority to do truly remarkable things, Jesus. the Christ, told them, as recorded in Luke 10:20 (NLT): "But don’t rejoice just because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names
