Summary: A wonderful picture of what Communion with the LORD is all about as evidenced in the story of Jehoiachin and Evil-Merodach from 2 Kings 25.
“Invitation to the King’s Table”
A. Jehoiachin’s INCARCERATION. (v. 27a) John 8:34; Romans 6:12-13, 16
i. His bondage to Sin. John 8:34; Jeremiah 13:23; Psalm 51:5; Genesis 6:5; 8:21
ii. His bondage to Satan. John 8:44; 1 John 3:8, 10
iii. His bondage to Sin Cursed Earth. Romans 8:5-6; Colossians 3:2; Philippians 3:18-19
B. Jehoiachin is INSTANTLY Set Free. (v. 27b-28) John 8:32, 36; Romans 6:18
i. It was not based upon his MERITS. (character) Ephesians 2:5, 8-9
ii. It was not based upon his MONEY. Isaiah 55:1; Matthew 19:21-22
iii. It was not based upon his MATERIALS. Matthew 16:26; 6:21
iv. All he had to offer was his MISERY. Romans 3:16; Eccl. 8:6
v. It was because of Evil-Merodach’s MERCY. Titus 3:5; 1 Peter 1:3; 2:10
