9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

C. Leading Topic: Conquest and Division of the land of Canaan

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. JESUS delivered us from sin (Lachish) and slavery/effects (Eglon) of sin.

"From Lachish Joshua and all Israel went on to Eglon,"

Lachish is the beginning of sin.

Eglon: This town appears to have been no great distance from Lachish, with which it is mentioned, [Source: Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge] The insight is when you sin, it's not far from being a slave to sin. (Which, according to Bunting, was eight miles from Lachish.)

Micah 1:13 (New International Version)

1:13 You who live in Lachish, harness the team to the chariot. You were the beginning of sin to the Daughter of Zion, (born again believers in the New Testament of Grace) for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

Eglon symbolizes slavery just like Egypt but unlike Egypt, it's the one called for when people of GOD fell into sin under the old testament. Eglon also symbolizes the effects of sin such as slavery, punishment, sicknesses/diseases, death, poverty, etc.

Judges 3:14 (King James Version)

3:14 So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

Judges 3:12 (King James Version)

3:12 And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

When you sinned, it's better to repent (change of mind) regarding that sin as quickly as possible or else Eglon (or effects of sin) will overtake you. Confess your sins right away and obtain forgiveness and cleansing from GOD - 1 John 1:9. If you have a certain disease, make sure you have no unconfess sin in your life.

These 2 cities: Lachish and Eglon are given to Judah (praise). The LORD JESUS came from the tribe of Judah. We are delivered and redeemed from sin because of JESUS. We can no longer sin because we're dead to sin, it's already been overcomed, now it's our choice to sin. We are already delivered from sin and it's effects (slavery, punishment, sicknesses/diseases, death, etc.)

Joshua 15:39 (Amplified Bible)

15:39 Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon, (context is Joshua 15:21)

Romans 6:11 (Amplified Bible)

6:11 Even so consider yourselves also dead to sin and your relation to it broken, but alive to God [living in unbroken fellowship with Him] in Christ Jesus.

CHRIST JESUS delivered and redeemed us from sin and it's slaving powers over us.

Romans 6:6 (Amplified Bible)

6:6 We know that our old (unrenewed) self was nailed to the cross with Him in order that [our] body [which is the instrument] of sin might be made ineffective and inactive for evil, that we might no longer be the slaves of sin.
