Topic: Jesus: The Reason For The Season!

Text: Isaiah 1:18-20 (New King James Version) (NKJV)

"íCome now, and let us reason togetherí says the Lord, íThough your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool! (v.19) If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the Lord, (v. 20) But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword,í for the mouth of the Lord has spoken,"

What does the word "reason" mean? The word "reason" is a term that refers to the capacity for human beings to make sense of things - to establish and verify facts - and, to change or justify practices, institutions and beliefs!

In the book entitled "If...," written by Evelyn McFarlane and James Saywell - a book designed to help stimulate discussion among people at a party - on a long trip - or, any place else where the conversation needs help - the book prompts its readers to answer questions that all begin with the word "If," thus its simple two-letter word title!

The questions range from the ridiculous to the sublime. For example, the book asks "If you could physically transport yourself to any place in the world at this very moment, where would you want to go? If you could have personally witnessed any event in history ("His Story"), what would you want to have seen?

Those two (2) questions got my attention since we are in the middle of the Christmas season; and, I immediately thought of Bethlehem and of being there for the birth of Jesus, the Christ! Being able to converse with Joseph and Mary would be an experience that I am sure I would never forget; and, I think that I would have some questions for Mary - such as, "What did Mary really know about her baby boy - Jesus?

In point of fact, I would ask each and every one of you that very same question: "What do you really know about Maryís baby Jesus?" It only seems natural - as we go through the Christmas season - that we would want to know more about the One that we are gathering together to celebrate: Jesus, the reason for the season!

For example, "Did you know that Jesus, the Christ, was the Creator of the Universe?" It is hard to imagine Mary, looking into the face of her beautiful new-born baby boy and understand that she was holding the One responsible for it all - and, I am certain that it is difficult for us - you and I - to comprehend that fact today also!

That the God of Creation would come to this Earth in the form of a fragile human infant is far beyond what any of us would ever expect or even dream of! But, the Holy Bible, the inerrant, infallible written Word of Almighty God, clearly teaches us that Jesus, the Christ, was the main agent in Creation!

In John 1:3 (NKJV), we read: "All things were created by Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made."

As Mary looked around her - at the green grass on the ground - and, as she felt the spray of ocean water on her face - and, as she gazed at the stars glistening in the night sky - she held in her arms the very One responsible for it all! It was nothing short of a miracle!

In Colossians 1:16-17 (NKJV), we read: "For by Him all things are created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (v. 17) And He
