Summary: This was a visible assurance to Israel of God's continued presence and protection.

SS~ #20~Joshua Heb. 11: 30 -31 ~~ Joshua 5:1 11-2-14

Heb. 11: -- "the hall of faith chapter" as it's often called.

@Let me remind us that during the day's that this epistle was written there were Jewish believers in Christ that had become discouraged from various persecutions from the none believing Jews, and many of them were considering on going back to their former religion, back to Judaism, back to the law of works, leaving this amazing grace that we as believers have in Christ Jesus.

@

@ ~~ So the writer of Hebrews was reminding these Jewish Christians of their ancestor's faith, he goes all the way back to Abel, trying to get these Jewish Christian to realize that the Christian walk is not always an easy road so to speak, but that it was and still is the only way to heaven. --- The people mentioned in this chapter kept their faith in the things of God often under enormous persecution, so the writer was trying to encourage his readers, and also you and me today as well, to stand fast in our faith in Christ.

@> Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

@ -----------

In the closing verses of chapter 10: - he writes to these discouraged Jewish Christians;

@Hebrews 10:36-39 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. -- promised reward.

@37For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

@--- When the set time for Him to return comes about, He'll return, nothing can stop it.

@38Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

@ 39But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Listen as I read today's text found in Heb.11: 30-31.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

31By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

In chapter 6: we'll see what happens to Rehab and her family because of her covenant with the two Jewish's scouts back in Joshua chapter 2: --

Rehab is in our text in Hebrews 11: 31, so letfs read chapter 2 of Joshua in order to bring us up to date.

==========

JOSHUA 2:

1And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlotfs house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

2And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.

3And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country. -- But before that happened we read in --

4And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, (too the king's soldiers) "There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:

5And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them."

6But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. -- Laid the flax out to dry-

7And the men (king's soldiers) pursued after them (or so they thought) the way to Jordan unto the fords: (crossing place) and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. (Gate keepers shut the gate)

@@8And before they were laid down, (the two scouts) she came up unto them upon the roof;

@@ 9And she said unto the men, LISTEN-- "I know that the LORD hath given you the land, (all of Jericho) and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. -- 10For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. --11And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. -- 12Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my fatherfs house, and give me a true token: (a guarantee) -- 13And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death."
