Living the Christian Life

Just Do It!!!

James 1:21-27

The Nike corporation, back in the late 1980s and early 1990s lived off of a slogan which featured Michael Jordan which said, “Just Do It!” This slogan was used to promote any item with Jordan’s like ness on. The reason for this slogan was Jordan’s attitude to life. Much like any rags to riches story, Jordan had the same story line. As a student in 9th grade, Jordan was cut from the 9th grade basketball team. The coach cited Mike for his lack of speed, size, and overall ability. That lit his fire. He did nothing but work to become the NBA’s all –time greatest player. He could’ve shut down when that coach cut hm, but he didn’t. He went to work. Tonight, we focus on a much more important project in our life. Being all that God’s wants us to be. So, as Jordan put it, “let’s Just do It!”

TEXT

I. Get away from Sin and anything that might lead you to Sin!

a. Ephesians 4:22-24

i. That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness

b. Flee all things that might lead you into trouble.

i. Do not allow yourself to be put into a position to fall

c. Watch your mouth! Watch your tongue and the words that are coming off of it!

i. Don’t get caught up in a gossip fest

ii. Don’t get caught up in a cursing fest

iii. Don’t get caught up in an anger fest

d. Watch your eyes and ears!

i. Don’t wander with your eyes. If you wander with your eyes, it will affect your heart desires.

ii. Don’t watch trash – it will effect your desires.

iii. Don’t listen to trash – it will effect your desires.

e. Get away – engraft yourselves in the word of God. God’s word will never fail. The things of this world will fail, but His word will always prevail!

II. Just Do It!

a. Don’t just say I know what to do – but apply it at do it.

i. Be a doer of the word, and not hearers only.

1. A recent study shows that only 10% of Christians actively share their faith with non-believers. This tells me that only 10% of Christians are Christians.

2. My Bible tells me to “go out and tell”

ii. People are to see God working through you

1. If you hear only and don’t do, you’re robbing yourselves of God’s blessings on your life.

a. You’re allowing yourself to fall into the trap of do-nothing.

b. You’re making a fatal mistake of seeing that you are all right in God’s eyes.

c. You’re thinking, I don’t have to do that, I’m a good person, I go to church and all of that stuff.

d. You’re lost, simply put

b. However, if you “Just do it”, you will be blessed in your deed.

c. Put your faith into action, do not sit on it!

III. Don’t be religious, be a Christian

a. There is a difference!

b. We have hundreds of religions in our world today. However, there is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus Christ. A person can be the most religious freak in the world and still be lost as a goose.

c. To be pure is to be spotless before God.

d. There are many who claim to be Christians, but few who have truly met the master.

Have you been doing all that you can do for Christ at Home? At Work? At Wal-Mart? At Church?

Have you been religious, going through ceremonial motions, or have you been a Christian striving to grow closer to God?

Have you truly given your life to Christ?

“Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on me, Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on me.

Melt Me, Mold Me, Fill Me, Use Me, Spirit of the Living God, Fall fresh on me. Lord, we need a fresh anointing, we cannot borrow from yesterday, come and fill us, Holy Spirit, teach us your mercy and your grace!”
