First, God will give us the rain of our land in the due season, or the right season. Rain was a precious gift in region of Judea. This was a region that really only had two rainy seasons. It was important that the rain came during the right seasons for good and healthy growth. Rain that came too early had no effect on the ground as far as preparation for the planting season. The same was true regarding rain that came too late; it affected the growth of the crop. Why was it so important to have the rain come at the right season? Because rain has a proportionate affects on the harvest.
God wants us to live in the season of the harvest. The amount, intensity, and frequency of rain determine the abundance of the harvest. You are probably wondering how this applies to you. Before you can walk in the harvest, before you can see the rainbow, before you can experience true spiritual growth, you have to experience the rain showers. Rain, as it applies to our lives, represent periods in our lives that we are going through a test. If you have ever experienced the death of a loved one, been through a divorce, lost a job, battled an illness, fought an addiction, or have been lied to or on, then youíve experienced rain in your life. Why does God allow us to experience rain in our lives? Rain in the right season brings about growth, and growth brings harvest. Have you ever been through a situation that you had no idea how you would get through it? That is an example of experiencing rain in your life. Somehow you got through it, and now looking back on it you realize that you are stronger as a result of what you went through.
I know a pastor who went through a divorce. He also lost his job during the same time period. He really suffered through it because he didnít want the divorce and he loved his wife. His wife at the time was determined she wanted to be single and be with someone else. I saw him cry many times and pray to the Lord to deliver him from the painful test he was going through, but he had to go through his storm. If you just stand still and let the Lord fight your battles, the victory will be yours.
The pastor and his wife were finally divorced after a couple of years of legal bickering. That is when God blessed him into his season of harvest. He later met a young lady, and it was as if God designed them for each other. They were married, and to this day are a beautiful couple. If he had never gone through that rainstorm, he would have never received his rainbow with his new wife. He went through, became stronger as a result of it, and now is reaping the blessing of the harvest because of his faithfulness and trust in God. I heard a young lady once say, ďEverything God gives us is either a blessing or a lesson.Ē Rain in the right season is very important for growth.
Notice what Jesus says in St. Matthew 7:24-27 regarding the parable of the two builders:
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
