Summary: Why is it an insult to offer any more sacrifices for sin after Calvary?

1. What is the sum of the arguments thus far? We have a High Priest who is in Heaven (v. 1).

2. What is significant about His position at the right hand of God? Once for all stand before God (v. 1).

3. Who is able to identify with Christ in the Heavenly places? To the one who over comes (Revelation 3:21)

4. What title given here suggests that Christ is constantly engaged in priestly activity? Minister of the sanctuary (v. 2). The word minister means servant. It is a truth that our Lord is now active on our behalf.

5. How may we know that the Old Testament tabernacle was only symbolical? Our tabernacle not made with hands (v. 2; 9:11).

6. What was one of the chief ministries of a high priest? To offer gifts and sacrifices (v. 3).

7. What did our Lord Jesus Christ have to offer? Christ gave Himself as an offering (Ephesians 5:2).

8. What brought all the old blood sacrifices to an end? Christ dying for sins (13:11-12).

9. Was Jesus on earth in competition with any Jewish priest? No – not in the law (v. 4).

10. Why was it an insult to offer any more sacrifices for sin after Calvary? Christ offered the supreme (better) sacrifice (9:24).

11. What two better things do we have through the priesthood of Christ ? Better covenant established upon better promises (v. 6).

12. Why should Israelites have realized that the sphere of the Mosaic covenant was limited? God promised a new covenant (v. 7-8).

13. Had Israel been faithful to its part of the covenant? No (v. 9).

14. In contrast to the conditions “if you will” of the old covenant, we find under the new covenant the un-conditional? “I will” (v. 10, twice).

15. When one is born from above through acceptance of Jesus Christ, what does God do by the power of the Holy Spirit? God’s law is put in us (v. 11).

16. When this covenant is brought to its consummation in the Kingdom age, what will be its scope? All will know God (v. 11).

If you have never really accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, would you do it right now? Do not delay or put it off. If you would like to receive Christ by faith, pray this simple prayer in your heart:

Dear Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. I repent of my sins. By faith I receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior. You promised to save me, and I believe You, because You are God and cannot lie. I believe right now that the Lord Jesus is my personal Savior, and that all my sins are forgiven through His precious blood. I thank You, dear Lord, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, God heard you and saved you. I personally want to welcome you to the family of God and rejoice with you.
