Matthew 11:28-30

Introduction:
Many of you have seen the old Ark Linkletter interviews with kids or the Bill Cosby show, “Kids say the Darndest Things.” In that spirit, here are answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:
Why did God make mothers?
She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
How did God make mothers?
He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
What ingredients are mothers made of?
God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
What kind of a little girl was your mom?
I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
They say she used to be nice.
Why did your mom marry your dad?
My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.
What's the difference between moms and dads?
Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.
A tired mom opened the front door of her home to find a neighborhood pastor on the step. The pastor said, "I'm collecting donations for the new children's home we're building. I hope you'll give what you can."
"Certainly," the stressed woman said, "I'll give you two boys, two girls, OR one of each."

Life is hard! It drains us, it depletes the energy that we have. For many it’s go, go , go, from the moment we rise until we close our eyes at night. Most of us could use a chance to catch up and catch our breath. As we look at the book of Matthew this morning, rest is exactly what Jesus offers.

I. INSTRUCTION-
Jesus uses the imperative form of come. He is giving us a direction more than an invitation
It is for our own good that we come to Him because we make such a mess without Him
Notice who Jesus calls to come to Him: All who are labor and carrying heavy burdens
Does that sound like you? Have you been beaten and battered by life?
Does the weight of your sins and mistakes bear down upon you?
Do you feel like you can’t handle any more and then suddenly find you have more to handle?
Jesus understood the situation. He speaks to those who are tired and carrying too much
There are so many responsibilities that fall to us that we have trouble keeping up
We have family responsibilities and bills and work and social obligations and work
There are appointments and activities and chores and routines that fall upon us
On top of that, we try to live up to the expectations of others and their demands
It is understandable how that we can get stressed and have little energy
Human effort falls far short of the standard God requires. We can never be good enough.
Queen of Alice and Wonderland: “Now here, you see, it takes all the running you can do to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that.”
The word "labour" refers to those who are absolutely worn out from effort
The word "heavy laden" speaks of those who have been pressed down by a great weight.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
If you are tired of searching for meaning and purpose from the world, come to Jesus!
If you have learned
