Summary: Letting go of our worries and sin.

PLACE IT ALL ON THE ALTAR

Genesis 12:7 and Genesis 15: 9-10

I.WHAT IS THE ALTAR?

A scriptural altar is not necessarily a place of planks and boards at the front of a church. But:

1. A PLACE OF FULL SURRENDER

Genesis 2l “Abraham came to such a place.”

In the New Testament we have Romans 12:1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

2. A PLACE OF SACRIFICE

Genesis 4 “Abel came to such a place.”

In the New Testament Paul said, Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

3. A PLACE OF SURE DEATH

Lev. 16, “And the lamb had to die.”

In the New Testament, John 12:24 Jesus said, “Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit”

II.WHAT DO WE NEED TO PLACE ON THE ALTAR?

1. OURSELVES

Romans 6:13, “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”

Romans 12:1, “We need to present our body, soul and mind unto the Lord.

2. OUR HOMES

Joshua cried, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” A Christian home honors Christ, the Bible, and the church.

3. OUR POCKETBOOKS

David cried, “What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?”

III.WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE PLACE ALL ON THE ALTAR?

1. THE FIRE OF THE LORD COMES DOWN

“Then the fire of the Lord fell.” (I Kings 18:38)

Isaiah felt the fire from heaven when he placed his all on the altar. Isaiah 6:6-8 “Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

2. THE SONG OF THE LORD BEGINS

II Chronicles 29:27 “And when the burnt offering began the song of the Lord began.”

For 16 years there was no song in the House of the Lord but after 16 days of house cleaning (one day for each year of silence) their song was regained.

(Ahaz reigned for 16 years and was a bad king)

3. THE POWER OF GOD WILL BE RESTORED IN OUR LIVES.

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

After Jacob wrestled with the Lord all night, he received power with God and with men. (Genesis 32:28)
