Pour It Out
Psalms 62:8 "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah." KJV
Intro: The Psalmist here implores the people to:
1. Put their trust in God. When things are well for me and not well with you, it’s real easy for ME to tell YOU to trust in God. But... when things are not well with me and all is well with you, it is not real easy for ME to listen to YOU tell ME to trust him! Still, though it is easier to talk about than to do, it will still work!
2. Place God as their refuge or protection. You can trust him, for he is our refuge. He is our protection. As a matter of fact, He is our only protection!
3. Pour out their hearts before the Lord. Hold back nothing from him. He knows you better than you know yourself; there is no need to try to put on your best face before God! Be honest with him. Pour out your heart before him.
I want to preach today with this verse in mind using this title: POUR IT OUT. Notice Two Primary Things:
I. He Poured It Out
II. We Must Pour It Out
I. He Poured It Out:
A. He Poured Out The Rain: Genesis 6:5-8, 11-14, 17, 7:11-12
B. He Poured Out The Blood:
1. Poured out the blood of the Old Testament Lamb (Gen 3:21, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”) God shed the blood of the lamb to cover the nakedness of Adam & Eve.
2. Lev. 4 gives the command of the offering for sin. God poured out the blood of the Sacrificial Lamb.
3. John 1:36, John the Baptist pointed to Christ and said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” He poured out his blood at Calvary as the New Testament Lamb sufficient to wash away sins for time and eternity. (John 19:34, “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.”)
The blood of the Lamb in Genesis was poured out to cover the sins of Adam and Eve. The blood of the Lamb in Leviticus was poured out to cover the sins of Israel. But the blood of the Lamb of God... Jesus Christ... was poured out to take away the sin of the whole world, of whosoever would believe!!
C. He Poured Out The Wrath of God: Is 53:10-11, “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.” The first three hours on the cross he offered his body pouring out his blood, but the last three hours he offered his soul to his Father. Jesus poured out his soul, and the Father poured out his wrath. It was on the cross that God’s Christ became man’s Jesus! He not only poured out the blood of Christ, he poured out his wrath against sin in his own Son that we may be spared the full force of his mighty judgment.
II. We Must Pour It Out:
A. Pour Out Oil: II Kings 4, Her boys were going to be taken into bondage for the debt of their father. This woman did not have the means to pay the debt for them, but she poured out the oil until God met the need. Every saint of God needs to be filled with the oil of the Spirit and pour it out daily before God for those they love that are lost. Pour yourself into vessels large and small. Pour your oil of the Spirit out in the presence of your children. When was the last time your children saw you do something spiritual? How often do they see you pray? Do they hear you call their names and ask God to save their souls? You can not pay their debts, but I implore you to pour out oil in their presence!
B. Pour Out Ointment: Luke 7:37-38, A woman with an alabaster box of precious spikenard came to Jesus, washed his feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, and broke the box over his head and poured out the ointment. It was a costly gift. It was a sacrificial gift. It was an humbling experience. Have you given your all to God? Have you broken your box? She not only gave him the ointment... she gave him the box! Have you humbled yourself before him? Have you poured out your sweet smelling oil of worship before him? How often have you just told him that you love him? When was the last time you got alone with your Savior, sat at his feet, and simply glorified him and thanked him for all his many blessings on you? Pour out that ointment of worship! Break your box of praise! It will fill the house... your house and God’s house! Today is the time to pour it out! Now is the time to get on your feet, raise your hands in praise, and glorify God! Break your box! Pour it Out! GIVE GLORY TO HIS NAME!!
