Who can control his tongue? Please raise your hands.

To prove once tongue is submitted to the Holy Spirit will yield good results.
IV. TEXT:
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it shall eat the fruit of it.
V. THESIS:
Tongue can control your life's destiny.

POWER OF THE TONGUE
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Author: Solomon - author or compiler
B. Purpose: To give moral instructions especially to young people.
C. Key Text: Proverbs 1:4 to give sense to the simple, knowledge and judgment to the young man;
D. Key Thought: Fear of the Lord
E. Date and Time of Writing: anywhere from 10 to 6 B.C.
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. Tongue has the power of life and death.
Problem: James 3:5-6
Jas 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. Behold how little a fire kindles how large a forest!
Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by hell.
1. Who speaks rashly will come to ruin. (Proverbs 13:3)
He who keeps his mouth keeps his life; he who opens his lips wide, it is ruin to him.
2. Words will condemn us. (Matthew 12:37)
For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.
B. Loving the tongue will have it's fruits:
1. How do you love the tongue?
a. Keep it away from evil and lies. (Psalms 34:13, 1 Peter 3:10)
Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking guile.
For he that wants to love life and to see good days, let him restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile.
b. Guard it. (Proverbs 13:3, Proverbs 21:23)
He who keeps his mouth keeps his life; he who opens his lips wide, it is ruin to him.
Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
c. Keep a tight rein on it. (James 1:26)
If anyone thinks to be religious among you, yet does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is vain.
IX. CONCLUSION:
Pray this prayer: Give us an instructed tongue. (Isaiah 50:4)
The Lord Jehovah has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned. (MKJV)
The LORD God has given me a learned tongue, so that I may know how to sustain the weary with words. And morning after morning he wakens, and he wakens my ear to listen like those who are being taught. (ISV)
