Summary: To show that JESUS is GOOD, our Strength and our Stronghold in the day of trouble and He knows those who trust in Him.

I. EXORDIUM:

Who is Your Stronghold?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show that JESUS is GOOD, our Strength and our Stronghold in the day of trouble and He knows those who trust in Him.

IV. TEXT:

Nahum 1:7 (Amplified Bible)

1:7 The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him.

V. THESIS:

Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are Good all the time, You are my Strength, You are my Stronghold in the day of trouble and You know me very well because I trust in You.

VI. TITLE:

The Good LORD, stronghold in the day of trouble

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: uncertain. Probably Nahum. Nahum means "compassionate" or "full of comfort"

This book is regarded by some scholars as a sequel to Jonah. It would appear that the Assyrians, after their repentance at the preaching of Jonah, soon relapsed into gross idolatry. They plundered other nations, and their capital became like a lions' den full of prey, Nahum 2:11-12.—Thompson Chain - Bible Book Outlines

B. Date written: a sequel to Jonah. 664 to 612 B.C.

C. Purpose: To pronounce divine vengeance upon the bloody city and to console Judah with promises of future deliverance,—Nahum 3:1; 1:13-15—Thompson Chain - Bible Book Outlines

D. To whom written: GOD's people in Judah and Nineveh's inhabitants

E. Main Theme: destruction of Nineveh

F. Key word: Judgement

G. Key verse: Nahum 1:7-9 (Amplified Bible)

1:7 The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him.

1:8 But with an overrunning flood He will make a full end of [Nineveh’s very] site and pursue His enemies into darkness.

1:9 What do you devise and [how mad is your attempt to] plot against the Lord? He will make a full end [of Nineveh]; affliction [which My people shall suffer from Assyria] shall not rise up the second time.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. The LORD is Good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble

"The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble;"

Good or "tob" in Hebrew meaning:

1. in the widest sense as noun and adverb

2. beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, glad

3. graciously, joyful, kindly, kindness, loving

Strong hold or "maoz mauz maoz mauz" in Hebrew meaning:

1. fortified place

2. figuratively a defence - force, fort, rock, strength

Day or "yom" in Hebrew meaning:

1. day (literally from sunrise to sunset, or from one sunset to the next)

2. figuratively a space of time defined by an associated term

Trouble or "tsarah" in Hebrew meaning:

1. tightness

2. rival: - adversary, adversity, affliction, anguish, distress, tribulation

1. The LORD is Good.

1 Chronicles 16:34 (Amplified Bible)

16:34 O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

Psalms 25:8 (Amplified Bible)

25:8 Good and upright is the Lord; therefore will He instruct sinners in [His] way.

Romans 11:22 (Amplified Bible)

11:22 Then note and appreciate the gracious kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s gracious kindness to you—provided you continue in His grace and abide in His kindness; otherwise you too will be cut off (pruned away).

2. Our Stronghold and Strength

In the midst of battle or war, you can't have both, because if you have stronghold, the people inside it are getting weaker because of lack of food and water. The LORD as a Stronghold is totally and infinitely different, because while the LORD surrounds us like a Stronghold, He also strengthens us by Himself so we're getting stronger and stronger inside the LORD.

Psalms 27:5 (Amplified Bible)

27:5 For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.

Psalms 91:1-2 (Amplified Bible)

91:1 HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].

91:2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!

The LORD will guard us by keeping us in constant and perfect peace because He is the Prince of Peace. The world will fake this peace by buying sleeping pills, or drugs injection but they don't have peace, this fake peace will kill them.

Isaiah 26:1-4 (Amplified Bible)

26:1 IN THAT day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah: e have a strong city; [the Lord] sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks.

26:2 Open the gates, that the [uncompromisingly] righteous nation which keeps her faith and her troth [with God] may enter in.

26:3 You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.

26:4 So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].

3. In the day of trouble...

We are already in trouble because we are still in this world. It's a promise of GOD, a fact of GOD's WORD, we need to accept it and not deny it, we are in trouble or tribulation, we can only stand because the LORD have overcome this world for us.

John 16:33 (Amplified Bible)

16:33 I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

Psalms 20:1 (Amplified Bible)

20:1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. MAY THE Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob set you up on high [and defend you];

We always pray to be aware of the LORD's victory for us.

Psalms 50:15 (Amplified Bible)

50:15 And call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify Me.

Declare the LORD's victory thru a song.

Psalms 59:16 (Amplified Bible)

59:16 But I will sing of Your mighty strength and power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy and loving-kindness in the morning; for You have been to me a defense (a fortress and a high tower) and a refuge in the day of my distress.

B. The LORD knows those who take refuge and trust in Him

"He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him"

Knows or "yada" in Hebrew meaning:

1. to know in a great variety of senses

2. observation, care, recognition

3. acknowledge, acquaintance, advise, answer, appoint, assuredly

Trust or "chasah" in Hebrew meaning:

1. to flee for protection

2. to confide in

3. have hope

4. make refuge

5. put trust

People can't be trusted, in fact if we trust them we are already cursed.

Jeremiah 17:5 (Amplified Bible)

17:5 Thus says the Lord: Cursed [with great evil] is the strong man who trusts in and relies on frail man, making weak [human] flesh his arm, and whose mind and heart turn aside from the Lord.

Our hope, trust, confidence, refuge and protection is only in the LORD.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (Amplified Bible)

17:7 [Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.

17:8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.

While traveling, I saw a t-shirt that says "believe in yourself" how wicked this generation is, because they think everyone or themselves as god. In this evil generation, you can't even trust yourself to do good, why believe in yourself? Believe only on the LORD.

Acts 4:12 (Amplified Bible)

4:12 And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.

I don't like watching basketball game, it only displays belief in self and belief in your team, belief in the coach, belief in the game plan, but not a belief on GOD.

2 Chronicles 16:9 (Amplified Bible)

16:9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him. You have done foolishly in this; therefore, from now on you shall have wars.

Daniel 6:23 (Amplified Bible)

6:23 Then the king was exceedingly glad and commanded that Daniel should be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no hurt of any kind was found on him because he believed in (relied on, adhered to, and trusted in) his God.

Psalms 84:12 (Amplified Bible)

84:12 O Lord of hosts, blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts in You [leaning and believing on You, committing all and confidently looking to You, and that without fear or misgiving]!

IX. CONCLUSION:

Praise, worship and thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are Good all the time, You are my Strength, You are my Stronghold in the day of trouble and You know me very well because I trust in You.
