Summary: Matthew 23:37 , how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,

THE MOTHER-HEART OF GOD

If your Mother never did any thing right, she did one thing totally right…She Had You and You Are Anointed of God. Thank God for your Mother.

Isaiah 66:12 For the Lord says, See, I will make her peace like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream, and she will take her children in her arms, gently caring for them on her knees. 13 As to one who is comforted by his mother, so will I give you comfort: and you will be comforted.

God pays a wonderful tribute to motherhood in Isaiah,

as He refers to His love for His children as "a mother’s love".

Jesus paid the same tribute to motherhood when He spoke of His concern and love for Jerusalem being typified by

"a hen gathering her chicks under her wing."

Matthew 23:37 , how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,

I. THE LOVE OF A CHRISTIAN MOTHER

TIPIFIES THE LOVE OF GOD FOR HIS CHILDREN:

"To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:19.

God’s love is non-preferential.

Illustration: A mother who had twelve children

was asked which one she loved the best. Her answer:

"The one who’s sick until he gets well;

and the one who is away until he gets back home!"

II. THE CONCERN OF A CHRISTIAN MOTHER TYPIFIES GOD’S CONCERN FOR HIS CHILDREN:

"Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you."

It has been said: "A father becomes concerned when his child breaks a bone….a mother when her child skins a knee!"

III. THE SACRIFICIAL COMPASSION OF A CHRISTIAN MOTHER TYPIFIES GOD’S SACRIFICIAL HEART:

II Corinthians 8:9 "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.".

Everyone blessed with a godly mother can supply an abundance of illustrations to support this, “piggy-park”.

IV. THE PATIENCE OF A CHRISTIAN MOTHER TYPIFIES GOD’S PATIENCE WITH HIS CHILDREN: Romans 15:5

"Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus."

II Peter 3:9"The Lord….is long-suffering toward us,

not willing that any should perish, but that all

should come to repentance." .

How to love your mother ?

1. Tell her you love her. There are at least three languages of love. “My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth” (I John 3:18).

a. Attitudes. This is loving in the attitude of truth.

b. Actions. This is loving in deeds.

c. Words. This is verbal communication of the tongue.

Don’t love in words only, and don’t love without words.

2. Love her with your care. “When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold your son!’ Then He said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother!’ And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home” (John 19:26-27).

a. How did your mother care for you? Every way possible.

b. How should you care for your mother ? Every way possible.

3. Love her with hugs and kisses.

a. She loved you physically. Your mother was the first to touch you. Think of all the ways your mother touched you, i.e., tickling, kissing, washing, feeding, and protecting.

b. Now show your love with the same respect and affection.

4. Love her patiently. “Love is patient and kind” (I Cor. 13:4). “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,

and endures through every circumstance” (I Cor. 13:7).

a. Recognize her stress. Mothers have demands, i.e.,

physical, mental, emotional, financial, and spiritual.

b. Don’t become impatient, because she cannot do everything.

c. Mothers are not bottomless containers that can do everything even though they try and sometimes fail.

5. Love her with time and listening attention.

How did your mother listen to you?

a. When I hurt. b. When I had needs. c. When I failed.

d. When I celebrated. e. When I needed her.

How should you listen to your mother?

a. When she hurts. b. When she has needs.

c. When she is anxious. d. When she worries.

What should I give my mother today? Communication.

6. Love her generously.

a. Think of all the sacrifices your mother made for you.

She gave up for you her schedule, sleep, energy, time and friends. How can you repay her? Love doesn’t need repaying.

b. Think of all the things you can do for your mother today.

7. Honor her on Mother’s Day. (Ex. 20:12).

a. The only Commandment with promise. “Honor your father and your mother that your days may be long upon this earth”

DON’T DIE YOUNG Honor your parents….

b. You honor your mother by living for God.

(1) Recognizing her sacrifice for you.

(2) Respecting her authority.

(3) Returning her expectations. ( Do unto Mothers, as you…)

8. Obey your mother in the Lord. (Eph. 6:1)

a. “Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right”

(1) To the young: when you put your feet under

your parent’s table, live by the rules of their house.

(2) When you leave home you still honor your parents,

even after you establish the rules of your house.

9. Application: What does your mother want, I’ll do it.

What does your mother need, I’ll get it.

What does your mother expect. I’ll make it happen.

A Mother’s Work (Ephesians 6:1-3)

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother - which is the first commandment with a promise - that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth"

One of the great tragedies of society today is the minimizing of the work performed daily by stay-at-home moms. They fail to get the feelings of accomplishment that can come from a career. They are the unseen missionaries of our day. There will be a special reward for these selfless servants. Without the commitment of our stay-at-home moms we would not have some of our greatest leaders. "All that I am, or hope to be,

I owe to my angel mother," said Abraham Lincoln.

Though poor, Ida Stover was determined to go to college. She scraped together enough money to attend Lane College in Lecompton, Kan., where she met fellow student David Eisenhower. She was known as a firm but gentle disciplinarian and was deeply religious. It is said she once won a prize for memorizing 1,365 Bible verses. As a pacifist, she was not in favor of her son attending West Point but decided to let him go. She was the mother of Dwight David Eisenhower.

Mary Litogot grew up on a farm where she met her future husband, William Ford, when he came to work on their farm. She was 12 and he was 26. They married nine years later. Mary was self-sufficient and a diligent worker. Henry later attributed his clean factories to her belief in cleanliness. She encouraged his interest in machines early on. He later said, "I have tried to live my life as my mother would have wished.

I believe I have done, as far as I could, just what she hoped for me."

She was the mother of Henry Ford.

Has God called you to be a stay-at-home mom? Know that your obedience and sacrifice will be recognized by the Lord.

THANK GOD FOR ALL OUR MOTHERS AND TO EVERY MOTHER READING THIS, “HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY”

Luke 6:31 Do unto Mothers…..

as you would have them do unto you.
