Ex. 33:12-23 SHOW ME THY GLORY I. THE REQUEST :18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. A. Moses' Duty - 3:10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. B. Moses' Discouragement - 33:1-3 3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way. C. Moses' Desire For -33:18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. Moses knows that the best cure for discouragement, disillusionment and dryness is a fresh glimpse of God. 1. God's Plan - 33:13 - Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, 2. God's Person - 33:13 - that I may know thee, Php 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; It Costs to Know Him That I may know him, It Counts to Know Him and the power of his resurrection It Constrains to Know Him and the fellowship of his sufferings It Conforms to Know Him being made conformable unto his death 3. God's Presence - 33:15 - And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. The Significance Of God's Presence it was God's presence that distinguished them as His people. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? The Separation Of God's Presence it was God's presence that distinguished them from other people. so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. In I Peter 2:9-10, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy." The Sanctification Of God's Presence 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. II. THE RESPONSE 33:19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. A. A Promise - 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. B. A Place - V. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: God tells Moses that there is a place by Him where Moses can stand and see the glory of God as it passes by. That place is a cleft in the rock. 1 Cor. 10:4. And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. Notice what the Bible says about Jesus, John 14:9; Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? John 1:18; No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. Heb. 1:3. Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; C. A Presence - 34:5-7 III. THE RESULTS 34:8; And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. no one can come face to face with the Lord and remain the same. Remember Jacob at Peniel, Gen. 32:24-32? After his encounter he limped. Saul of Tarsus Acts 9:1-8; The Disciples were Acts 4:13. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. A. It Produced Humility - V. 8, And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. 34:29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. B. It Produced Holiness - V. 8 and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped John 4:24. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. C. It Produced Honour - V. 29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. D. It Produced Harmony - V. 34-35 But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. 35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him. (Ill. All of these things are the outward signs of inward revival!)
