David: The Great Personality
2 Samuel 7:9
Bible, the Holy scripture was written for our edification and guidance. Holy Spirit has recorded so many things through his servants. We see many exemplary personalities in the Bible. For ex., Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Miriam, Esther, Ruth, Samuel, and DAVID etc.,
David was great leader ever lived on the earth. So now we will be thinking about the great King David. Though he had very humble beginning but ended his life as a great king of his days and a man remembered for many generations. He became an important symbol in the history of Jews, Christian and Islam. He became a scale for evaluating the kings of Israel and Judah for many generations. He became an unquestionable canon for the people of Israel to live for God.
He was divinely chosen by God and was known as a man after God’s own heart (1 Sam.13:14). He was much talented man. He was a musician (Psa.8,19,23…), mighty valour (1 Sam.17:34-36) and a champion (1 Sam 17:40), intelligent thinker, man of wisdom. He was a great singer. He was a shepherd boy later became the shepherd of the people of Israel. His words through psalms are very inspiring, motivational and devotional thoughts. Whoever reads the words of David are encouraged to continue in their faith in God.
However, throughout his life he was going through sufferings and separations. He was a forgotten son (1 Sam 16:11-12), he was a chased son-in-Law (1 Sam 18:20), sustenance less orphan (1 Sam 20:3). But we see in his life that he was strong in his faith in the Lord, he lived very closely with God. He quickly mended his life and lived for God rest of his life. Hence, God exalted him among his brothers and friends. He was anointed by God (1 Sam 16;13), he had great zeal for God (1 Sam 17:45), God was with him wherever he went and whatever he was doing (1 Sam.18:14).
The greatest honour given to David was Jesus was known as the ‘son of David’. He was very handsome (1 Sam.16:12) and had beautiful family life. Though, he fulfilled the Law related to care of Widows. However, he had crossed the border (2 Sam.5:13, 11:1ff) which brought great disaster in the family life of David. He had lost the control of his family members. He was tortured by his own wives, and children. When he was very old his children became very insubordinate and died one after another because of the in-fight for the Chair. He set an example how to be patient and forgive the master though he was against him in all matters.
He had very good committed team with him. He studied each one’s character and used their talents accordingly. He had very faithful commanders and soldiers who were willing to sacrifice their own life for the sake of King David. He never used the people who were with him for ill purpose. David was also known for his good friendship with Jonathan. He remembered it till his life. He was so grateful to his friend and took care of his children with great concerns even after the death of his friend. He was a very perfect example of faithful servant and worker. Because he was doing everything to please God and not for men. He never shown his displeasure to the people around him.
David was interested on God’s work and ark. He wanted to build a temple, but God stopped him to proceed because of bloodshed not only in the war even by his sinful act. However, his love and devotion to God excelled the secular life. He loved the Lord and his ark so much therefore, he danced before the ark and brought it to the city. He desired to build the temple and acquired all the things need for the building of the Temple.
God bless you.
