Summary: Not everyone is called to become a Pastor, a Sunday School Teacher, an administrator or to become a worship leader. As followers of Christ, all are called to become....Fishers of Men.

Called to Become... "FISHERS OF MEN" - Luke 5:1-11

1. Hearing the word of God

• Multitudes press close to hear the word of God

• People want to hear what God’s word has to say

• It’s important that we sit at the feet of Jesus/ To learn from Him

• Romans 10:17 Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

• The word of God causes our faith to grow

2. Hearing the voice of God

• What’s more important than hearing the word of God? Hearing the voice of God.

• Many hear God’s word/ But not His voice

• The multitudes heard the voice of Jesus, the voice of God

• God has called us to become...As we learn from Jesus, He will make us to become…

• Sometimes we get too comfortable in Church, hearing the word of God all the while neglecting to hear from God personally

• “A ship is safe in the harbor, but that’s not what ships are built for”

• We are called to be “Doers of the word, and not hearers only”

3. Launch out

• Put God’s word into action

• Put feet to God’s words/ Step out in faith

• Take what we have learned and apply it

• Use our Gifts/ Talents for the Kingdom of God

4. Into the deep

• That’s where the fish are/ They’re not on the shore

• May be a few smaller fish a few feet out

• The big fish/ Greater quantity are off shore

• When deep sea fishing/ Go out a ways

• Jesus said Go – Go into all the world/ That’s where the fish are

5. Let down your nets on the other/ Right side for a catch

• A distinction is made between works and faith

• They had toiled (Worked) all night and caught nothing

• Jesus said trust Me/ Have faith in Me

• God can see what we cannot see

6. Nevertheless, at Your word

• It may not make any sense

• God says do it anyway/ God blesses obedience

• God is looking for obedience/ Not sacrifice

7. God gives the increase

• They couldn’t believe it/ Astonished

• Great Catch/ Filled both boats/ Broken nets/ God’s Blessing

• Others will come alongside to help

• Never forget that it was God that gave the increase

8. Remain Humble

• Peter said “I am a sinful man”

• Never forget where you came from

• Many a servant has fallen because of pride

• Remain humble

9. Do not be afraid

• Fear is the number one reason people never reach their destiny/ Never fulfill their calling/ Never accomplish what God has for them

• Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

10. Forsake and Follow

• When they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him

• If you want to be a Fisher of men, it will require sacrifice

• Forsake all/ Old life/ Old friends/ Old habits…

• Follow Jesus and He will make you to become Fishers of men
