Summary: Sometimes we see the ungodly prosper. Especially in the days in which we live. However, the psalmist admonishes us not to be envious of them.

Ps 37:1-5

7 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

(KJV)

Sometimes we see the ungodly prosper. Especially in the days in which we live.

However, the psalmist admonishes us not to be envious of them. (vs. 1) Don’t fret or be concerned about them. Why?

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Always remember that the pleasures of sin are only for a season. Today, I want us to see how that we as Christians can bring about prosperity in our lives.

Title: ~~~

I) Trust (vs. 3)

Heb. – To be confident or sure.

In other words, put your complete & total confidence in God.

Ps 91:2

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. (KJV)

In the Amplified Bible it says, “In whom I lean and confidently rely.”

There’s an old hymn that says “never failed me yet.” As if to say that even though it hasn’t happened, it might. NO!!! The fact is that if I really trust (lean on & confidently rely on) Him, I know that He never has, nor will He ever fail me.

Then David said, “and do good.”

We can’t be just doing what we want. We’ve got to do good.

James 2:20

20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (KJV)

James 2:26

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

(KJV)

Then look what happens when we do this.

“so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”

Ps 37:25

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. (KJV)

Phil 4:19

19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (KJV)

God has & will always supply my needs!

II) Delight (vs. 4)

What does it mean to delight yourself in the Lord?

Heb. – To be soft or pliable.

In other words, be submissive to God. If He tells you to do something, do it. Like clay in the potters hands, we must always be soft and pliable.

Jer 18:4

4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. (KJV)

When we delight ourselves in the Lord…

“he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”

It’s important to remember that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, our desires change. Our desire in now to please the Lord.

III) Commit (vs5)

Heb. – to roll.

Hey, that’s why they call us Holy Rollers, because we’re supposed to roll. LOL

No, the implication here is to roll the whole burden of life upon him.

Have you ever noticed that we tend to get bogged down running our daily lives.

I gotta do this, or I gotta do that. Our lives, many times become ritualistic & we burden ourselves down with the cares of life.

However, if we commit it to (roll it on) the Lord, he says, “he shall bring it to pass.”

All of the things that have to be done in your life, God will take care of them.

Paul said…

2 Tim 1:12

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. (KJV)

Ps 37:7

7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

(KJV)

This is the hardest thing for Christians to do. Rest

Heb – Be silent to the Lord.

We can rest assured that God is in charge & we wait for the need to be met.

Once we get Trust, Delight, & commit down, the Rest comes easy.

Ps 1:6

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (KJV)
