Summary: A broken life changed by the power of Christ

"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the Kings horses and all the kings men. Couldn’t put Humpty together again"

There are various theories of the origin of Humpty Dumpty. “Humpty Dumpty” referred to King Richard III, 1483-85 the hunchbacked monarch. At the Battle of Bosworth Field, he fell from his steed, a horse he had named “Wall” (as dramatically rendered in Shakespeare’s play “Richard III”: “A horse! A horse! My Kingdom for a Horse!”) Richard was surrounded by enemy troops in the battle, and was butchered right there, his body being hacked to pieces. Hence the final part of the rhyme: “All the King’s Horses and All the King’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again!”

Another is from the name of a cannon during the English Civil War. 1642-48 It was on top of a tower. When the opposing force blew off the top of the tower, Humpty Dumpty fell to the ground. The King’s (since they were on the Royalist side) footmen and cavalry tried to fix him, but failed.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

1 Peter 5:8
