"HOW DO YOU SPELL Christmas?"

Preached-at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church

Sunday morning, Dec. 10th, 2006

Rev. Danny Moss, pastor mssdnny@yahoo.com

Introduction-

How do you spell Christmas? I believe that one way

we can spell it is P E A C E.

That was the angelic announcement to the shepherds

who were keeping watch over their flocks by night.

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,

good will toward men." (Luke 2:14)

But, tragically, the reality of the situation is

that our world is far from being at peace. There

is an ever increasing rise in anarchy, it seems, in

violence, and political and social unrest. We

talk about peace, but do little to achieve peace.

There cannot, and will not be peace, until Jesus,

the Prince of Peace, rules over this world for a

thousand years, as predicted in the book of Reve-

lation. Our world is-

-a world of wars and rumors of wars

-of terrorists, and suicide bombers

-of murder, rape, stealing, and greed

-of nuclear bombs, and chemical weapons

-of abortion, and starvation and disease

As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the

days of the Son of man. (a time when the world was

said to be filled with violence)

How we long for peace! Yet, there can never and

will never be peace until the Prince of Peace rules

this world and has His way in the hearts and lives

of men. Then, it will be a new day.

-a day wherein the wolf dwells with the lamb

-a day when the lion shall eat staw, like

the ox

-a day when the beast from the wild shall

be led by a child, and peace shall rule

from east to west, and north to south.

No more

-bloodshed in Iraq

-words of threatenings from North Korea

-weeping over murdered family members in

Israel

-mockery and hatred of our President in

every corner of the globe,

For, King Jesus will rule with a rod of iron, and

He will tolerate nothing of that sort.

We can have peace now, in spite of the condition of

our world. Jesus said-

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:

not as the world giveth give I unto you. Let not

your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

John 14:6

"These things have I spoken unto you, that in me

ye might have peace..." John 16:33

Romans 5:1-"Therefore, being justified by faith,

we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus

Christ."

"For he is our peace..." Colossians 2:14

The world may be in turmoil, but we can have peace.

My friend, if you do not have peace today there

is One alone who can give it to you. Come to

Jesus, and you’ll have peace.

II. Secondly, I believe that we can spell Christmas

J O Y. Joy, because that is what Christ gives us.

In Luke 1:14 the angel announced to Zacharias,

father of John the Baptist, "And thou shalt have

joy, and gladness, and many shall rejoice at his

birth."

John was so excited, and full of the Holy Spirit

and joy, even before he was born, that he leaped

in his mother’s womb. I bet that got her atten-

tion, don’t you!

Wow! What an awesome God! Do you have joy in

Jesus? He is ready to give it to you.

Philippians 4:4-"Rejoice in the Lord always, and

again I say, rejoice."

III.Thirdly, I believe that we can spell Christmas

L O V E. Love, because it was nothing short of

the love of God for us that caused Him to send

Jesus to die on the cross for our sins.

John 3:16-"For God so loved the world..."

His life, His death, His resurrection, His

ascention, His imminent return-all spell LOVE.

1st John 4:10-"Herein is love, not that we

loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His

Son to be the propitiation for our sins."

1st John 4:16-"...God is love..."

Because He loved us, He was willing to forgive

us.

IV.Fourthly, I belive that we can spell Christmas

H O P E. Hope, Christ is our hope. Without

Him, we would have no hope, and would be of all

men, "most miserable."

Our hope is sure and steadfast. It is not a

wishful dream, but an awesome assured reality.

We have the hope of Heaven, and eternal life.

V. Fifthly, and finally, I believe that we can spell

Christmas S A L V A T I O N. Salvation. He came

to save us, and by His blood He secured salvation

for us.

"How shall we escape if we neglect so great

salvation?"-Heb. 2:33

Acts 4:12-"Neither is there salvation in any

other: for there is none other name under

heaven given among men, whereby we must be

saved."

Invitation-If you are not saved today, invite Jesus

into your heart, and you will know truly how to

spell Christmas.
