Summary: Belivers must stop making excuses for lives of spiritual weakness and use God’s power for living by laying down their weaknesses and exchanging them for His strengths
And the men of Bethshemesh said,
Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God ?
Many things had to take place to make the people of Bethshemesh realize that God deserved special attention.
Some believers today show God by their actions that they have better things to do than glorify and praise God.
Otherwise…
Trouble comes quickly (Hebrews 12:25)
Our own imperfections block God’s help (2 Peter 1:4)
We must excel with God’s strength.
I His Grace in place of Our Weaknesses (4:1-11)
2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness...
A. Over-confidence sows seed for defeat
B. Over-confidence “puts God to the test”
II His “Can Do” Outlook in place of Our Excuses
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ...
A. God acts without us if necessary (6:1-18)
B. God’s holiness expects us to know how to obey (6:19-21)
III His Escape from Our Failures
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape…
A. God honored their efforts to obey (6:21-7:2)
B. Repentance precedes God’s special assistance (7:10-14)
