William Akehurst, HSWC

Big Idea: On the first Sunday of the New Year. Psalm 23 for year 2023, and Psalm 24 for 2024.

Who can stand in the Holy Place of GOD? Those who seek HIM, having been transformed by the Great Shepherd.

Vs. 6 is being fulfilled as we witness what is happening in Israel. Could 2024 be the year of HIS RETURN?

Note: The biblical number 24 refers to the Priesthood.

SCRIPTURES: 1 Peter 2:9-10, Psalms 23:1-6, Hebrews 4:14-16, Psalms 15:1-5, Matthew 5:8, Luke 21:28, John 16:33, 2 Chronicles 20:15, Revelation 19:11-16, Hebrews 13:20-21, Psalms 65:11

1 Peter 2:9-10

9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Psalms 23 The LORD the Shepherd of His People. A Psalm of David.

WHEN THE LORD IS YOUR SHEPHERD, YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED.

HE LEADS, GUIDES, RESTORES, DISCIPLINES, GUARDS, PREPARES, COMFORTS, AND ANOINTS YOU.

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside the still waters.

3 He restores my soul;

He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil; For You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life; [HERE AND NOW]

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. [FOR ALL ETERNITY]

THE ANOINTING.

A SHEPHERD ANOINTS THE HEAD OF THE SHEEP TO KEEP THE BUGS OFF.

WHEN A KING IS PUT IN PLACE, HE IS ANOINTED WITH OIL.

THE ANOINTING IS A REFERENCE TO THE WORKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

GOD PLACED THE SPIRIT OF HIS SON INTO OUR HEARTS, THIS IS OUR ANOINTING.

HIS ANOINTING UPON US. 1 Peter 2:9-10 FOR THE ROYAL PRIESTHOOD

Psalms 24 (NKJV) The King of Glory and His Kingdom. A Psalm of David.

1 The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness,

The world and those who dwell therein.

WE BELONG TO THE LORD, PEOPLE AND THE WHOLE EARTH

2 For He has founded it upon the seas,

And established it upon the waters.

THE CREATOR OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH

3 Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?

Or who may stand in His holy place?

WHO CAN GO? WHO CAN APPROACH? WHO CAN STAND?

WHO? See Hebrews 4:14-16, see Psalms 15

Psalms 15:1-5

1 LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle?

Who may dwell in Your holy hill?

2 He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart;

3 He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;

4 In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the LORD; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

5 He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

1ST CHRIST,

2ND ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, CHOSEN GENERATION

IN CHRIST, WE HAVE AN INHERITANCE. A PATH TO FOLLOW.

WE AS BELIEVERS CAN COME BOLDLY TO THE THRONE OF GRACE OBTAINING MERCY AND GRACE.

Hebrews 4:14-16

14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,

Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,

Nor sworn deceitfully.

THE CONDITION OF THE HEART: CLEAN ACTIONS, PURE HEART, NOT GIVEN TO ANY OTHER gods, NOT LIARS.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

5 He shall receive blessing from the LORD, And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
