Summary: Reasons to be Cheerful

Psalm 71 Reasons to be Cheerful

14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more

I. GOD'S PERMANENCE - Note the word "never" in verse 1:

1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion

In all Periods of life - from the womb to the tomb

all Places of life,

all Problems of life,

And all Perils of life.

II. GOD'S PROTECTION -

He is Our Rescuer - 3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort:

Our Redeemer - 3 thou hast given commandment to save me;

Our Rock - 3 for thou art my rock and my fortress.

Our Refuge - 7 I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.

III. GOD'S PURITY - His "righteousness":

15 My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

Purity in Will, in Way, in Word, & in Work.

Pure in every Attribute

Pure in every Action - Abraham asked, "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"

The answer is, Yes, He will!!!

Pure in every Answer - Joseph - Gen 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me;

but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

IV. GOD'S PARDON - "thy salvation":

15 My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

We are Fully, Freely, and Faithfully Pardoned.

V. GOD'S PRECEPTS - 17 "thou hast taught me"

It's Source - 17 O God, thou hast taught me

It's Sustenance - from my youth:

It's Song - and hitherto have I declared

It's Subject - thy wondrous works.

VI. GOD'S POWER - and thy power to every one that is to come.

18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.

HE IS ABLE - To Save, To Support, To Supply, To Satisfy.

His Past - Psalm 37:25 I have been young,

His Present - and now am old;

His Perception - yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,

His Persuasion - nor his seed begging bread.

VII. GOD'S PREEMINENCE - 19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!

His Greatness can't be Measured, Matched, or Mastered.
