Summary: Reasons to be Cheerful

Psalm 107:1-20 Reasons to be Cheerful

God's Perfection - 1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good:

God's Patience - for his mercy endureth for ever.

God's Purchase - 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

God's Power - whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

God's Purpose In -

Who He Saved - 3 and gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

They had been delivered from Egypt to the south, Syria and Assyria to the north,

the Philistines to the west, and Babylon to the east

Where He Saved -

4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

When He Saved - 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

Why He Saved - 6 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble,

and he delivered them out of their distresses.

How He Saved - 7 And he led them forth by the right way,

that they might go to a city of habitation.

God's Provision -

His Will - 8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness,

and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

His Welcome -

To the Barren -

9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

To the Blind -

10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

To the Brazen -

11 because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

To the Broken - 12 therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

To the Burdened -

13 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

To the Bound - 14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,

and brake their bands in sunder.

His Work -

For the Defiant - 15 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness,

and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

For the Defeated - 16 For he hath broken the gates of brass,

For the Deflated - and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

God's Presciption -

For the Foolish -

17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.

For the Fallen -

18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.

For the Fearful -

19 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.

For the Feeble -

20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
