Summary: Why is the church in America so immature? I believe it is because the church does not want accountability. No one wants to be corrected. We must learn how to receive a corrective word.

Receiving A Corrective Word

Matt 18:3-4

 Free to offenses, free to serve, free to grow

 Why is the church in America so immature?

 Because the church does not want accountability.

 No one wants to be corrected.

 The church must learn how to receive a corrective word.

Why do Christians hate correction?

 Pride

 Low self-esteem

 Lack of godly wisdom

5 Reasons To Embrace Correction:

1. It will keep you out of ignorance

Prov 12:1 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.

Prov 1:22 "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge.

Prov 15:5 A fool despises his father’s instruction, but he who receives correction is prudent.

Prov 15:31 The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise.

2. It will keep you prosperous.

Prov 13:18 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, but he who regards a rebuke will be honored.

3. It will keep you alive.

Prov 15:10 Harsh discipline is for him who forsakes the way, and he who hates correction will die.

4. It will keep you in God’s will for your life.

Prov 10:17 He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, but he who refuses correction goes astray.

5. It is proof of Christian maturity

Prov 17:10 Rebuke is more effective for a wise man than a hundred blows on a fool.

Prov 15:12 A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, nor will he go to the wise.

Prov 19:25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will become wary; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge.

Giving A Corrective Word:

 Is it just for the five-fold ministry? (Corrective or Restorative?)

 Should I correct every situation?

 It must be done with a right motivation.

 It must be done in love.

Prov 27:5 Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed.

Matt 18:15 "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.

Prov 9:7 "He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, and he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
