Summary: Seek Good and Live. Amos Chapter 5

Happy "Seek Good" Saturday, Everyone!

I know a person that grew up in the church, participated in Bible school, attended all the events, participated in the activities, sang hymns, prayed, etc. Then this person grew up and went to college and became an atheist. Really? Is that how it happened? I don't think so. It doesn't just happen that you spend half your life with the church and all of a sudden someone convinces you that there is no God. ---Want to bet? It totally happens that way! But how? Well, there are many reasons why someone turns from a Christian lifestyle to something else. (Notice I said a Christian lifestyle and not from being a Christian). In this week's Sunday School lesson in Amos chapter 5 we are going to see that God is not fooled. The scripture tells us to Seek Good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of Hosts, shall be with you...

Leaving our secure little homes and heading off to the big city sounds exciting but if we aren't firmly anchored in Christ, Satan will rip the godly rug right out from under you. The mistake many parents make when raising children is that instead of gaining trust, they develop an image of what mom and dad want me to "look" like in front of others. Well, that's asking for trouble because as soon as a child gets a mind of his/her own, they experiment with it by trying to change their circumstances. Hence the danger - the child puts him or herself in the line of fire for Satan's fiery arrows. Guess what? Satan is a great shot! The failure in the home where kids learn is that we aren't teaching them to SEEK GOOD. We are too busy telling them to BE GOOD.

You've heard the saying "give a person a fish and feed them for a day; teach a person to fish and feed them for a lifetime." Parents aren't teaching or mentoring or coaching; they are telling them that "this is the way you are to be" and along comes a slick professor with some scientific formula, and presto-chango, No God. Boys and girls are taught to go for the gusto. Reach for your desires. And when they do, they push God to the side. Sooooooooooooooooooooo, what now? Well friends, the Bible tells us to Seek Good and live. In this life, we MUST continually seek after God. We must include him in every aspect of our lives. We must recognize that He and only He is the Salvation of our souls. The world is a stage and its actors are hypocrites.

Here is the kicker... We are ALL in the world and on the stage, but some of us aren't OF the world. AMOS 5:14 says, "Let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream." The Bible tells us that "it is appointed for all people to die, and after that - the judgment." We are loosing our children! We must do better! Judgment is coming to America and to our families. Seek good and live. Amen!
