Summary: We as Christians trust not only in what God can do but in what God cannot and will not do.

Seven Impossible Things

Introduction

We as Christians trust not only in what God can do, but also in what God cannot do. Our hopes rest not only upon God’s ability, but also upon God’s inability. There are some things that God cannot and will not due because they are against His character and against His Word. What are some of these things that God cannot do, these things that are impossible for God.

I. It Is Impossible For God To Lie. - Hebrews 6:18

“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:”

1. The Bible declares God’s existence – Gen. 1:1

2. The Bible tells us of heaven – and of hell.

3. The Bible tells us of God’s Love – God’s Grace – and God’s mercy.

4. The Bible tells us of God’s promise of eternal life. - Titus 1:2

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;”

II. It Is Impossible For Man To Enter Heaven Unless He Is Born Again – John 3:3-8

Not only will he not enter heaven – he will not even see it.

III. It Is Impossible For Man To Be Saved Any Way But God’s Way. - Acts 4:12

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

1. Sin must be paid for. – either by the sinner or by God.

a. In the OT a lamb was slain

b. In the NT Christ became the lamb.

2. Either sin must be condemned - or the sinner

We are familiar with John 3:16 but what about the next verse, verse 17 - “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

IV. It Is Impossible To Be Saved Without Personal Faith In Christ. – Acts 16:30,31

“And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? [31] And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

V. It Is Impossible To Believe On The Lord Jesus Christ And Not Be Saved.

Note – I did not say believe in Jesus but to believe on Him. There is a difference.

Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Eph. 2:8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:”

VI. It Is Impossible To Be Saved After This Life. - John 3:36

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Our ticket to either Heaven or Hell is punched this side of the grave. We pass out of this life like arrows pointing in one of two directions.

VII. It Is Impossible For Those Who Despise, Reject, Or Neglect Jesus Christ To Escape The Penalty Of Their Sin. - Hebrews 2:3

“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation;….”
